Dasuki files new application in court, invites Olanipekun, Falana, others in his trial

- Sambo Dasuki has applied for some 'friends of the court' to become part of his ongoing trial - The friends of the court invited in the application by Dasuki include Femi Falana; the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Paul Usoro - Others are two former presidents of the NBA, Oluwole Olanipekun and Olisa Agbakoba; a teacher of law, Koyinsola Ajayi; and Oyechi Ikpeazu The past National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has filed a fresh application before the Federal High Court in Abuja over his ongoing $2.1 billion trial. Dasuki in the application urged the court to invite some senior lawyers, popularly referred to as "amici curiae" - friends of the court - for his trial. The friends of the court are set of individuals usually senior lawyers who are not party to a particular case. - INEC has warned that it will not hesitate to sanction any corps member found to have betrayed public trust by accepting gifts including food, from politicians during the elections - The electoral commission also warned corps members not to struggle with thugs, so they don't put their lives in danger - INEC further disclosed that corps members on election duties would be posted to different local government areas of the state other than where they currently serve Ahead of the forthcoming general elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stated that it will not hesitate to sanction any corps member found to have betrayed public trust by accepting gifts including food, from politicians, during the polls. Nigeria’s total debt rises to N22.43trn - DMO

- Emerging reports have claimed that Nigeria’s total debt now stands at N22.43 trillion - The Debt Management Office stated that the nation’s total debt as of September 30, 2018, stood at N22.43tn - The data further showed that the external debt component of the country’s total debt stood at $10.32bn as of June 30, 2015 The data obtained from the Debt Management Office (DMO) have shown that Nigeria’s total debt now stands at N22.43 trillion. The Punch reports that DMO stated that the nation’s total debt as of September 30, 2018, stood at N22.43tn. As of June 30, 2015, the country’s total debt stood at N12.12tn. According to the office, this means that within the tenure of the present administration which came to power on May 29, 2015, the country’s total debt has risen by N10.31tn or 85.06 per cent. The Kwara state capital, Ilorin was on Wednesday, January 9, locked down by scores of All Progressives Congress (APC) women and youth who staged a peaceful rally in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.
