Withdraw All Charges Against Sowore, Others, AAC Tells Nigerian Government

The African Action Congress has called on the Nigerian Government to withdraw all charges brought up against pro-democracy campaigner and Convener of RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, and others still being detained by law enforcement agencies. Making the call on Tuesday after the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered the Department of State Services to immediately release Sowore on bail, AAC head of legal team, Tope Akinyode, said that the charges brought against Sowore has no basis. He said, “We submit that the reasoning of the court in granting liberty to Omoyele Sowore is impeccable. “It is our contention that when justice is certain and mild as we have seen today, hope is renewed in the common man. “We hail the judge for his legal erudition and industry in this matter. Law is sacrosanct, law is saintly; the law knows no partisan politics and never should justice be for sale. “Our other demand is that the government should immediately withdraw all the charges again

Sowore: Court Has Done The Right Thing, Says Chidi Odinkalu

Chidi Odinkalu, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Nigerian Human Rights Commission A former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has described the ruling of Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordering the release of Omoyele Sowore from the Department of State Services detention as the right decision. Odinkalu stated this on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking with SaharaReporters. He said, “It is the right thing to do, we are in a democracy under a written constitution with fundamental rights guaranteed. “If you detain a person and he is now in detention for over 45 days and no charges had been preferred yet, in a democracy, this should stop. “I am glad that the court granted him quite sensible conditions. “If the court where he is supposed to be going for trial is actually saying release him to his lawyer till the government is ready to arraign him, it tells you something.” ACTIVISM Human Rights News AddThis :  Origi

Total Total French oil multinational, Total, on Tuesday said that it would take a Final Investment Decision on Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Ltd’s train seven project at the end of the year. Reuters reports that Arnaud Breuillac, the company’s head of production, said it expects gas to start flowing from the new processing plant by 2023. NLNG had earlier in September signed a letter of intent for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction of the new processing plant with the SCD consortium. The building of the new plant is expected to cost $10bn. The train seven project was unable to gain any traction last year but 2019 has turned out to be generally profitable for gas projects.  Breuillac had at the New York announcement noted that the company intends to expand the gas production in energy portfolio from 14 per cent to 25 per cent.
