Kankara: Education Under Attack In Northern Nigeria – Amnesty International

Amnesty International has strongly condemned Friday’s attack on Government Science Secondary School in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State and the abduction of over five hundred boys by Boko Haram Terrorists. Osai Ojigho, Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, in a statement on Tuesday, said the abducted students risk being harmed or being forced to become child soldiers. According to the human rights watchdog group, most students in Northern Nigeria had abandoned their education after being displaced by frequent violent attacks on their communities, and many teachers have been forced to flee to other states. Police Confirm Two Dead, Several Injured In Rivers’ Stampede

The Rivers State Police Command has said that two persons were killed, while several people injured during a stampede at an event in the Rumuodara area. The event was organised by Inksnation, a Non-Governmental Organisation, for its registered members to distribute some palliatives for the end of the year. Kano Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has said he sacked Muhammadu Lamido Sanusi as the Emir of Kano to save the system and the traditional institution from abuse. Nigerian Government Orders Telcos To Disconnect SIM Not Synchronized With NIN

The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed all network operators to disconnect every SIM card not synchronized with the valid National Identity Number by December 30, 2020. The order was issued after an urgent meeting of key stakeholders in the communications industry convened by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami, on Monday. The meeting in its resolution insisted that all telecom operators must require all their subscribers to provide valid NIN to update SIM registration records as from December 16. This development comes on the heels of an earlier directive suspending new SIM registration by network operators across the country. Notorious Gang Leader Linked To Governor Ayade Arrested For Killing Assistant Commissioner Of Police

Governor Ben Ayade A dreaded gang leader in Cross River State, Kingsley Utomobong, and his gang members have been arrested for the murder of an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Egbe Edum.  Edum was hacked to death by gunmen on Wednesday, December 2, at 8 Miles area, along the Murtala Mohammed Highway in Calabar. Abduction: Zamfara Shuts Down Boarding Schools

Zamfara State Government has closed down ten boarding schools in the state to prevent possible abduction of students by bandits. Speaking to journalists in a press conference on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Education, Dr Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the schools would remain closed until the security improves. The affected schools, according to Abdullahi, are Government Secondary Schools in Zurmi, G.S.S. Birnin Magaji, (boarding), and G.A.S.S. Zurmi (boarding), G.G.S.S. Moriki (boarding). Science Secondary School Shinkafi (boarding), Science Secondary School, Dansadau (boarding) and Science Secondary School, Bukkuyum (boarding). Others are G.D. S. S Nassarawa Mailayi (day), G.D.S.S. Gusami (day), and G.D.S.S. Gurbin Bore, (day). Police Nab Five Cult Members With Dead Body In Ogun

Five men suspected to be cult members and caught with the corpse of a man have been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command.   The suspects: Babatunde Shittu, Ayobami Morenikeji, Fidelis John, Abdullah Adegbenro and Oyeyemi Bakare, were arrested on Monday following a distress call to the Sango Area Command headquarters. The command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the Area Commander, Monday Agbonnika, had promptly responded to the distress call.  The statement also stated that the young men had confessed that they were on a revenge mission with the corpse at the house of their opposition who was responsible for the death of the young man.
