Bandits Demand N7m Ransom To Free Kidnapped Zamfara Villagers

Armed bandits have demanded N7m ransom for the release of 14 people kidnapped at Dankurmi Village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. SaharaReporters recall that the gunmen attacked Dankurmi on November 6, 2020, killing one person and abducting 14 others. Many villagers were also left with gunshot wounds. Four days after, the abductors have demanded N7m ransom to release those kidnapped. A brother of one of the kidnap victims told SaharaReporters that they had no means of raising that money after the bandits looted the little they had gathered including motorcycles. “They are demanding N7m, where do they want us to see that? They have looted all our belongings including motorcycles,” he said. Shiite Group Petitions Human Rights Commission, EU, UN, Demands Justice For Lekki Massacre Victims

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, a Shiite group, has submitted a formal petition to the National Human Rights Commission, United Nations and European Union, Abuja, to demand justice for victims of the October 20, 2020 Lekki shooting. The group condemned the brutal force used on protesters by some soldiers of the Nigerian Army. In a statement by Secretary, Academic Forum of the ISM, Abdullahi Musa, described the shooting of unarmed protesters as barbaric and uncalled for. DSS Drags Man To Court For Sharing Fake Video Of President Buhari’s Wedding

The Department of State Services has arraigned one Kabiru Mohammed for creating and sharing a fake video of President Muhammadu Buhari’s wedding to Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq. Mohammed was arraigned 10 months after he was initially arrested by the DSS. The DSS, while parading Mohammed in January, said it received a petition from Ahmed to investigate the photos and videos and uncover the persons involved in the circulation of such materials. The DSS claimed he had confessed to creating and circulating the video. Police Release Nigerian Journalist After 30 Days Unjust Detention

The Nigerian Senate has been asked to revive the amended electoral bill and pass to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has inaugurated the state’s Judicial Panel of Inquiry on police brutality and extrajudicial killings in the state. Rahama Sadau, a Kannywood actress, has dismissed news of her being arrested and imprisoned over a dress she wore revealing her back. Activists Protest At US Embassy, Demand Justice For Ken Saro-Wiwa, Eight Others 25 Years After Killing By Abacha Regime

Civil society organisations and human rights activists on Monday staged a peaceful protest at the Embassy of United States in Abuja to demand justice for Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight other Ogoni leaders executed 25 years ago.  They were hanged on November 10, 1995, by Nigeria’s military regime under late General Sani Abacha for protesting Shell’s destructive environmental practices in the Niger Delta. The group called on the United States to intervene and prevail on the Nigerian Government to exonerate the late activists, who were unjustly executed. Leader of the group, Sidney Usman, said the protest was aimed at drawing the attention of the Government of the United States and other Western countries to the failure of the Nigerian Government to exonerate the activists 25 years after. Sowore Calls For Exoneration Of Ken Saro-Wiwa 25 Years After False Accusation, Murder By Nigerian Government

Omoyele Sowore, rights activist and pro-democracy campaigner, has called for the complete exoneration of Ken Saro-Wiwa, a Nigerian environmental activist, who was killed by the Nigerian Government in 1995. Saro-Wiwa led a non-violent campaign against the environmental degradation of the Niger-Delta region by multinational oil companies such as the Royal Dutch Shell as well as the Nigerian Government’s operations. In 1995, he was unfairly tried by a military tribunal under the late General Sani Abacha dictatorship for allegedly masterminding the killing of some pro-government Ogoni chiefs, a charge which he denied. Patients Groan In Ondo Hospital As Doctors Continue Strike Action

Patients have begun to lament as activities take a plunge at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Ondo State. This followed the indefinite strike action embarked upon by the Association of Resident Doctors in the state. The doctors had been protesting since last week over the government’s failure to accede to their demands including the non-payment of their salaries. On Monday, many patients and their relatives, who turned up at the public hospital both in Ondo town and Akure, the state capital, were not able to get medical services from the striking doctors.
