Africa: How Do We Reduce Disaster Risks for the Conflict-Affected?

[Thomson Reuters Foundation] In September, I marched along the streets of New York with impassioned climate activists calling for greater action on climate change. Their placards warned 'the seas are rising and so must we'. Seeds Of Destiny Devotional – The Mystery Of Speaking In The Holy Ghost

Topic: The Mystery Of Speaking In the Holy Ghost [Seeds Of Destiny 14 October 2019 Devotional] When you are confronted with what you don’t understand, confront that thing with a language it won’t understand. SCRIPTURE:  For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.1 Corinthians 14:2 THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:  When you are confronted with what you don’t understand, confront that thing with a language it won’t understand. Sometime ago, I was in an aircraft and the man who sat next to me suddenly began to make some incantations. I asked within myself, what is this man up to here? Is he trying to cast a spell on this aircraft for it to crash? No way! So, I adjusted myself close enough to him so he could hear me and began to blast in tongues; jaarshtah… ketuakawa’teya izegenatoxelephratoyash. (It was incantation versus incantation). Then, the occult man looked at me ...

DCLM Daily Manna – Don’t Focus On The Wrong Side!

Topic: Don’t Focus On The Wrong Side! [DCLM Daily Manna 14 October 2019 Daily Devotional By Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi] Text:  Numbers 13:17-33 (KJV) Key Verse:  “And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sights as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sights”  (Numbers 13:33). MESSAGE: What we choose to focus our attention on in life often determines what we see; and what we see, in turn, influences our attitude and ultimately, affects what we get – success or failure. This is why people who know the importance of having the right attitude in life always teach that people focus on the right things no matter the situation. The spies that Moses sent to check out the situation of things in the Promised Land brought back a report to confirm that the land was just as God has promised. However, instead of focusing on this positive and promising side, they chose to focus on the negative – the giants in th...

Senghenydd colliery disaster

Senghenydd colliery disaster . The Senghenydd colliery disaster occurred at the Universal Colliery in Senghenydd, near Caerphilly, Glamorgan, Wales, on 14 October 1913. The explosion, which killed 439 miners and a rescuer, is still the worst mining accident in the United Kingdom. In an earlier disaster in May 1901, three underground explosions at the colliery killed 81 miners. The inquest established that the colliery had high levels of airborne coal dust, which would have exacerbated the explosion and carried it further into the mine workings. The cause of the 1913 explosion may have been a spark from underground signalling equipment. The miners in the east side of the workings were evacuated, but the men in the western section bore the brunt of the explosion, fire and afterdamp—a poisonous mixture of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and nitrogen left after an explosion. It took several weeks for most of the bodies to be recovered.
