2020 UTME: Policeman Arrested For Impersonation

A policeman, Etim Israel, has been arrested for impersonation at the 2020 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination. Israel, a constable with Akwa Ibom State Command, was arrested for paying someone to take the UTME examination on his behalf. The policeman, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, registered for the exam with his name but had his impersonator did the biometric identification and face capturing. Admitting to the act, Israel confessed to have paid N30,000 to engage the services of the mercenary (a teacher), one Emmanuel, said to be on the run, to sit for the examination as he was away on special duties, PUNCH reports. After scoring over 240 in the exam, he was said to have decided to commence the admission process but couldn’t sail through because of the disparity in the photograph. COVID-19: Donald Trump Taken To US Military Hospital

United States President, Donald Trump, has been taken to Walter Reed Army Medical Centre on the advice of his doctors as a precautionary measure after testing positive for COVID-19. Trump, 74, had confirmed in a post on Twitter on Friday morning that he and his wife, Melania, 50, will self-isolate for two weeks after testing positive for Coronavirus. They were tested after one of his aides contracted the virus. Trump is “fatigued but in good spirits”, White House physician, Dr Sean Conley, said in an earlier statement on Friday, adding that the US President was receiving a cocktail of experimental antibody drugs as a “precautionary measure”. IGP Deploys DIG, AIG, Eleven CPs For Ondo Governorship Election

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu Ahead of the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State, the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Research and Planning, Adeleye Oyabade, to oversee general security arrangements for the election in the state. This was made known in a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, on Friday. Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu. Chevron Nigeria To Sack 25 Per Cent Of Workforce

Chevron Nigeria Limited has concluded plans to sack 25 per cent of its workforce in Nigeria. CNL said the slash was due to review of its manpower requirement going by the changing business environment. Election: We Won’t Post Corps Members To Troubled Coastal Areas In Ondo, Says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that it would not post any member of the National Youth Service Corps to coastal areas in Ondo State as ad-hoc staff during the governorship election on October 10. Ghanaians Working For Nigerians Threaten Protest Over Closure Of Employers’ Shops

About 200 Ghanaians working under Nigerians whose shops had been locked up by the Presidential Taskfl Force on Retail Trade at the Suame Magazine in the Ashanti region, have threatened to demonstrate against the government for closing down the shops of their employers. According to GhanaWeb, the closure of the shops, they said, had rendered them jobless and made it difficult for them to feed themselves and their dependents. They claimed that their employers had genuine documents to operate and do not understand why the shops were closed down together with those, who did not have genuine documents. Nigerian Man Sentenced To 40-year Jail Term In United Kingdom For Double Murder

A 28-year-old Nigerian man, Obinna Ezeoke, was on Thursday jailed for 40 years in the United Kingdom over the murder of 53-year-old Annie Ekofo and her 21-year-old nephew, Bervil Ekofo, at their home in East Finchley in September 2016. According to prosecutors, Ezeoke, said to be a drug dealer, crept into Ekofo’s home just after dawn with intent to kill a target of gang revenge. On hearing a noise in the house, Bervil, a student and nephew staying with Ekofo, went to investigate and was shot at close range. Ekofo, who also went to investigate the noise was shot by Ezeoke, a court in the Old Bailey, London, heard. Lawyer Insists That Justice Salami Expressed Regret Handling Magu’s Probe Despite Denial

Justice Ayo Salami One of the lawyers of suspended Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, Zainab Abiola, has sworn an affidavit of truth insisting that a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, regretted heading the probe of Magu. Abiola had claimed that Salami expressed regret during one of the hearing of the probe. Gunmen Attack SARS Office In Rivers, Kill Policeman, Set Vehicles Ablaze

A policeman was killed when some gunmen attacked a Special Anti-Robbery Squad office in Oyigbo Local Government area of Rivers State. It was gathered that the gunmen invaded the place, which is along old Aba Road on Thursday, shooting sporadically before setting police vehicles ablaze. Spokesperson for the police in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, confirmed the incident. Omoni said 22 people had been arrested while order had been restored in the community. He said, “Our SARS office in Oyigbo was attacked. We lost one of our personnel and our patrol vehicle was burnt. Appeal Court Affirms Diri As Bayelsa Governor

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has affirmed Duoye Diri as governor of Bayelsa State. A five-man panel of the appellate court in two unanimous judgments on Friday reversed the majority judgment of the Governorship Election Tribunal which sacked Diri. In a split judgment on August 17, two out of three judges had upheld the petition filed by Lucky King-George, candidate of the Advanced Nigeria Democratic Party, on grounds that the Independent National Electoral Commission was wrong to have excluded the party from the November 16, 2019 governorship election. The tribunal ordered INEC to conduct a fresh poll in the state within 90 days. Delivering judgment on Friday, a five-man panel of the appellate court led by Adriza Mshella, upheld Diri’s appeal. The court held that the petition filed by the ANDP at the lower tribunal was statute-barred. Group Launches ‘Balloon Protest’ Against Buhari’s Anti-people Policies

A civil society group, Centre for Advancement of Civil Liberties and Development, has launched an online nationwide balloon protest against harsh and unfavourable government policies. The protest titled “NotYetIndependence” is aimed at facilitating citizens’ action against the plethora of government’s policies and impunity. Co-convener of the group, Raphael Adebayo, while addressing journalists on Thursday in Abuja said the intervention was to create an impression on how bad  things had gotten for Nigerians economically.
