President Muhammadu Buhari Presidency He said, “The problems with our electoral process are mainly human-induced as desperate desire for power leads to desperate attempts to gain power and office. “Democracy, the world over and as I am pursuing in Nigeria, recognizes the power of the people. 60 Years Of Independence: A Journey Full Of Sorrow By Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed

Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed The masses are yawning and gnashing their teeth with pains, grimacing over hunger and frustration that have crippled their livelihoods. They are helpless, many homes have been desolated because of economic instability. Crime abounds in a society where one is unable to eat a square meal in a day. Nigeria has become a crime scene because people are desperate to survive without recourse to possible consequences. Those at the corridors of power have no clue about governance; which accounts for why 60 years of a journey has yielded no results.  The maladministration, incompetence, intolerance and the evils inflicted upon the people by the vagabonds in power since the day of independence has been a wound that the masses are nursing. Buhari Olanrewaju Ahmed A country that claims to be the giant of Africa could not provide any form of palliatives for the masses during the pandemic, and is unable to provide shelter for its homeless population. Nigeria is a cou

Nigeria @60: Of Government Impunity And Need To Review Our Electoral Process By Olabisi Deji-Folutile

Olabisi Deji-Folutile As Nigeria marks its 60th anniversary, I just can’t help but ponder on the inherent complexities and contradictions in its system. Some things appear so contradictory in this country that oftentimes, one is forced to wonder until the person probably becomes “a wonder.”  Now, let me start with this example. How do you explain a situation where government officials mount a roadblock on terribly bad roads that are sure to reduce the value of any motor vehicle, no matter its state of fitness, and ask you to present your own vehicle’s certificate of roadworthiness?   The other time Vehicle Inspection Officers stopped me along the old Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, which by the way, has  become a shame of a nation going by its level of decay, asking for my vehicle’s certificate of roadworthiness. Here was I thinking of how much it would cost me  to repair my car for plying on  a bad road that should supposedly  be maintained by the government and the same government

The residents, who spoke with SaharaReporters earlier in the week, said that the bad state of the roads had caused them untold hardship. They explained that the roads were part of major routes that had been neglected by the state government. The residents disclosed that the bad state of the roads had caused them losses in many ways and prevented them from easily connecting other areas of Ondo and beyond. A resident of the area named Hope Akinolu while decrying the situation, “It is disheartening that we still have to be crying for help from the government over this road. Seyi Oyetunbi Any human crawling at age 60 is not medically fit to deal with life. Nigeria, the most populous African country, gained her independence from colonial rule 60 years ago, making it the genesis of self-rule that was predicted to be the beginning of her greatness. Sixty years of Nigeria independence has really been tempestuous – from the short lived democracy to a brutish military rule and finally to the democracy laced with gigantic corruption and abuse of power. It is on record that 60-year-old Nigeria presided by Major General Muhammadu Buhari ranks 3rd on the Global Terrorism Index. The self acclaimed giant of Africa is ranked above India to be the World Poverty Capital with 87million in abject poverty. Nigeria of today ranks 146 most corrupt countries out of 180 countries considered. Nigeria has a life expectancy ranking of 178 out of 192 ranked countries. The current life
