Family Of Slain Vendor Demands N500m Compensation From Gbajabiamila, Threatens Legal Action

Following the gruesome murder of a newspaper vendor, Ifeanyichukwu Okereke, by a security aide of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, the family of the victim has demanded for the sum of N500m as compensation. The Okereke family said it would take legal action against Gbajabiamila if all the demands were not met within seven days. This was contained in a letter dated November 23, 2020 signed by lawyer to the family, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN). The letter reads in part, “Our clients have instructed us to make from your good self, the following modest demands: That you use your good offices to ensure the immediate prosecution of your security aide (Abdullahi Hassan), who went on a frolic of his own, clearly acted outside the purview of his duty and responsibility by shooting to death an innocent, harmless. “That you adequately compensate the Okereke family with a modest sum of N500m only. Abuja Court Sentences 40-year-old Man To 40 Days In Prison For Stealing Candy

Kabiru Zakari, a 40-year-old man, has been sentenced to 40 days in prison by a court in Karu, Abuja, for stealing candies and boxer shots at a supermarket. Prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that one Agida Stephen, a manager at Fordmart Supermarket, Karu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on November 6. The complainant said that on the same date, the convict trespassed into the above-mentioned supermarket, disguised as a customer, picked two bottles of water, a packet of sweets, and three boxers valued at N4,500. Zakari reportedly hid his bounty under his cloth but was captured by the supermarket’s CCTV cameras. The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code Law. Justice Inuwa Maiwada handed the verdict on Tuesday after the convict had pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft. Kaduna Court Sentences 20-year-old Mechanic To 15 Strokes Of Cane For Stealing iPhone

Amos Dauda, a 20-year-old mechanic, has been sentenced to be whipped 15 times for stealing an iPhone worth N150,000 by a Kaduna State Chief Magistrate Court. Dauda was arraigned on Tuesday on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft. He pleaded guilty and asked for leniency in his sentencing. Prosecutor, Leo Chidi, told the court that one Stephen Francis reported the matter at the Gabasawa Police Station on November 15. He said Dauda went into the complainant’s apartment while he was sleeping and stole his iPhone valued at N150,000, adding that he was caught while trying to escape from the house and the said iPhone was recovered from him. He stated that the offence contravened sections 257 and 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017. Ibrahim Emmanuel, the Chief Magistrate, also ordered Dauda to clean the court premises as part of his sentence, NAN reports. Trump Administration Impose Tourist Visa Restrictions On 15 African Countries

U.S. President Donald Trump The United States Government led by President Donald Trump has imposed restrictions on citizens from 15 African countries planning to travel to America on tourist or business visas. The countries affected are Angola, Burkina Faso, Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Libya, Mauritania, Sudan, Sao Tome and Principe, Cape Verde, Burundi. U.S. President Donald Trump The new restriction requires temporary visitors to post bonds of up to $15,000 in order to visit the US.  It is targeted at stopping visa overstays, according to the US State Department.  The incoming Joe Biden administration has said it would reverse the travel restrictions imposed by Trump especially on African countries in the first 100 days of assuming office.
