Court Refuses To Hear Case Against Government Officials Who Violated Safety Precautions During Abba Kyari's Burial

A court in Abuja, Nigeria's capital, has refused to assign a date to hear the criminal complaint filed by human rights lawyer, Tope Akinyode, against top government officials, who violated safety precautions during the burial of Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari Abba Kyari.  Magistrate Zubairu Mohammad, who is handling the case, said the file had been taken over by the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory over unknown reasons.  Akinyode had filed a direct criminal complaint against Garba Shehu, Boss Mustapha, Ahmed Bashir and nine others.  Punchng The magistrate asked Akinyode to approach either the Chief Judge or Chief Registrar for proper explanation after the lawyer inquired into why the case file was transferred.  See Also Legal Lawyer Files Criminal Complaint Against SGF, Garba Shehu, Others For Violating Safety Guidelines During Kyari’s Burial 0 Comments 1 Week Ago When Akinyode visited the office of the Chief Judge of the FCT on Tuesday to

Lawmakers Summon Akpabio Over Fraud, Corruption In NDDC

Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio Members of the House of Representatives have summoned Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, and the Interim Management Committee of Niger Delta Development Commission, over corrupt activities in the commission. The lawmakers also want Akpabio to explain the spending of N40bn by the commission without yielding commensurate result. It’s Illegal To Acquire, Convert Private Houses To Isolation Centres, Lawyer Tells Speaker Of Nigeria’s House Of Representatives, Gbajabiamila

A lawyer and human rights activist, Malachy Ugwumadu, has faulted the controversial ‘Control of Infectious Diseases Bill 2020’ sponsored by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila. The bill, among other things, seeks to give the government the power to take over any property including private properties and convert same to isolation centres. The new bill, according to the Speaker, makes some controversial regulations for preventing the spread of infectious diseases, and for other related matters. Shiites Allege Plans By Government To Stage Protest At Kaduna, FCT Correctional Centres To Eliminate El-Zakzaky, Wife

Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria otherwise known as Shiites, have raised the alarm of an alleged plan by government to stage a riot in Kaduna Correctional Center in order to indict the group. In a statement on Tuesday by the Secretary of Academic Forum of the movement, Abdullahi Muhammad Musa, IMN said the plan was to engage some faceless groups to stage a violent protest in Kaduna and FCT centres of the facility where their members were being detained.  The statement added that the plan was aimed at eliminating their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, who has been in detention since December 2015 alongside his wife, Zeenat. Recovered Abacha Loot To Go Into Construction Of Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road, COVID-19 Fight –Presidency

The Nigerian Government has said it would channel the recently repatriated Abacha loot worth $311m to road construction and the fight against Coronavirus in the country. Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, made the disclosure in a statement on Tuesday. Shehu added that it would also be used in the completion of the Mambilla Power Project, which has the capacity to generate electricity for more Nigerian households.  He said, "On Monday, May 4, 2020, some $311m stolen from the citizens of Nigeria during the Abacha regime were safely returned to our country from the United States.
