EXCLUSIVE: Minister Of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Farouq, Tells Nigerian Lawmakers To Nominate Individuals For SIP Oversight

The letter Nigeria’s Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouq, has asked members of the National Assembly to nominate individuals from their constituency to oversee the implementation of the Social Investment Programme in the country. This comes after a meeting between the minister and President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, on Tuesday. At the meeting, Lawan and Gbajabiamila both made reservations about the scheme, asking the minister to seek their legislative input in the disbursement of the SIP funds in the country. JUST IN: LASEMA Puts Out Lagos Airport Hotel Fire

Operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has successfully put out the fire at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja. The LASEMA response team is currently conducting a post-disaster assessment to ensure the fire had been completely extinguished after the dampening down process. JUST IN: Delta State Records First Coronavirus Death

Delta State has recorded its first Coronavirus death.  Governor of the state, Ifeanyi Okowa, on Thursday night announced the incident on Instagram. He said, "I have just been informed of another case of COVID-19 in Delta State.  "The individual in question had underlying health issues and had visited Lagos in the past two weeks. "The patient presented himself late to one of our hospitals with severe symptoms including difficulty in breathing and was given the necessary attention by healthcare professionals.  "Shortly after the specimen was taken, he passed away. However, his test results came back positive today. "In order to mitigate against the spread of the virus, we are fast-tracking our contact-tracing to ensure that all those that came in contact with the deceased are properly isolated and tested immediately. BREAKING: Nigeria Records 14 New Coronavirus Cases, Total Now 288

Nigeria has recorded another 14 cases of Coronavirus. This was confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control in its daily update. According to the agency, 13 of the new cases were recorded in Lagos while the other one was from Delta. One death was also added to the total tally by the NCDC. It said, "Fourteen new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria. "13 in Lagos and one in Delta State. As at 9:30pm on April 9, there are 288 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria.  "Fifty-one have been discharged with seven deaths." The NCDC added that it reported two old cases from Bauchi as new on Wednesday.
