United States Partners Tony Elumelu Foundation On Entrepreneurship

  The United States Government has announced a partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation to promote entrepreneurship initiatives in Nigeria as a way to create job growth, economic prosperity and political stability in the country. Making the announcement in Lagos on Thursday, U.S Consul General, Claire Pierangelo, said that through a public diplomacy grant of $105, 000, the U.S. Consulate was supporting the training of a cohort of entrepreneurs from Southern Nigeria under the 2019 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program. Ease of Doing Business: Nigeria Improves On Six Reforms

  Details from the Ease of Doing Business report for 2020 has showed that Nigeria made improvement in six of the 10 areas measured by the bank. The country was however, used as a case study on poor procurement – a lapse that will count in the 2121 edition of the study. According to the study, Nigeria leaped from 145 to 131 but could suffer a setback when contracting with the government is added to the 10 topics currently measured by the World Bank commissioned research. According to the report, the Nigerian Government awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of a local road in 2007. The report said, “The works were slated to begin in 2009 but the project specifications had been designed six years before the contract was awarded. “By the time the contractor started the work, the condition of the road had deteriorated significantly.” The bank said the project was awarded at less than 60 per cent of the cost required to execute it. National Theatre Boss Urges Shift Away From Oil Economy

  The General Manager, National Theatre, Sunday Baba, has called on the Nigerian Government to take its focus away from oil and develop other critical sectors of the nation including culture and tourism. According to Baba, while oil is failing Nigeria as a country, culture and tourism development would take it to the next level of growth. National Museum Benin Intensifies Efforts To Repatriate Stolen Artefacts From Western Countries

  Curator of National Museum, Benin, Edo State, Theophilus Umogbai, has said that he and some group of Nigerians had intensified efforts to recover the country’s stolen artefacts from Western nations. Since the departure of British and Portuguese colonialists, several historical artefacts belonging to numerous Nigerian tribes have been lying fallow in museums across dozens of Western countries. The story was about a bloody crisis rocking Uzere community under Isoko South Local Government Area of the state. MTN Nigeria Building MTN Nigeria Building The Weather Report   MTN Nigeria Communications Ltd has reiterated the view of the Association of licensed Telecom Operators, saying it was forced to charge customers for accessing bank services via the Universal Structured Service Database channel by the body of bank Chief Executive Officers. MTN had on Sunday sent a message to customers saying it would begin charging N4 per 20 second use of the channel. Out of the four key mobile network operators, only MTN sent this message to customers. The firm in a statement said, “The SMS notification to our customers was sent after formal requests received from individual banks as well as the Body of Bank CEOs to implement end-user billing – a billing methodology where the customer is directly charged USSD access fees irrespective of the service charges that the bank may subsequently apply to their bank account. “It should be noted that the banks had up-till now been on a corporate billing

NNPC Wants Russia To Help With Repairing Refineries

  Group Managing Director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, has said that the rehabilitation of the country’s refineries is on the front burner in discussions with Russia. Italian group, Maire Tecnimont and Eni, have already been engaged to carry out the first phase of the rehabilitation of the two refineries in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The agreement was reached at the Russia-Africa Economic Forum. He said, “Refinery rehabilitation and gas infrastructure development on the front burner. “The team engaged Russian state company and private entities to secure development cooperation of mutual benefit.” The NNPC has signed a joint venture with Russian state oil company Lukoil. BREAKING: Distressed Building Collapses In Lagos

Sahara Reporters Media A two-storey building located on 7, Rufai Street, Makinde, Ojuelegba, Lagos, has collapsed. The incident, which has sent panic across the entire area, is said to have occurred after a heavy rainfall on Thursday evening. Teacher Who Raped Two-year-old Gets 60-year Imprisonment

  A supervisor at Chrisland School, Lekki, Lagos, Adegboyega Adenekan, who raped a two-year-old girl, has been sentenced to 60 years in prison. Justice Sybil Nwaka sitting at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sentenced and convicted 47-year-old Adenekan to jail. The teacher was charged with one count charge bothering on the rape of a minor. Justice Nwaka, while giving the ruling, held that the evidence before the court showed that the supervisor was guilty as charged. The judge said, “This defendant is conscienceless, wicked, an animal, and not fit to walk on the streets. “I hereby sentence Adegboyega Adenekan to 60 years imprisonment. This is the sentence of the court.” Nwaka said that schools should not only be interested in economic gains but the welfare of pupils as well. NJC Recommends Four Justices To President Buhari For Promotion

  The National Judicial Council has nominated four justices to President Muhammadu Buhari for elevation into the apex court. In a statement on Thursday, NJC spokesperson, Soji Oye, disclosed that Adamu Jauro, Emmanuel Agim, C. Oseji and Helen Ogunwumiju have been nominated to occupy seats at the Supreme Court. The council also recommended the appointments of Tsoho John as substantive Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, B. Kanyip as National President of Industrial Court, Esther Edigin as Chief Judge of the Edo High Court and Eunice Aderonke Alade as President of the Ondo Customary Court of Appeal. Oye said Mathias Olusegun Agboola, Sikiru Adeposi Oke, Olorunfemi Judith Ajanaku and Lawrence Olawale Arojo were all appointed judges of the Osun State High Court.
