Mambilla Project Won’t Benefit From $311m Abacha Loot, Says Garba Shehu

The Presidency says it acted in error by adding the Mambilla project among those to benefit from the $311m loot by late former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, which was recently returned to Nigeria from the United States and the Bailiwick of Jersey. Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, had in a statement last week announced that the project along with second Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Expressway, and Lagos-Ibadan Expressway would be the beneficiaries. But in another statement on Wednesday, Shehu said he regretted the erroneous addition of the project to the list as it was not part of the projects to be financed under the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund managed by the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority.  The recently repatriated Sani Abacha loot will go towards three of the Federal Government’s five priority projects, excluding the Mambilla power and East-West Road projects. Katsina Deputy Speaker Weeps Over Insecurity, Says State Now Compared To Borno As A Result Of Killings

File Photo Deputy Speaker of Katsina State House of Assembly, Shehu Tafoki, on Wednesday cried profusely while talking about rising insecurity in his constituency. Tafoki, who represents Faskari constituency, broke down in tears during a special sitting on insecurity by the Assembly. He said hardly a day went by without reported attacks across the area, adding that many have been killed, maimed and kidnapped. File Photo ChannelsTV The lawmaker said Faskari Local Government Area can now be compared to Borno State due to the level of killings. “Even last night, these bandits attacked Daudawa where they kidnapped four people and injured many,” he said. COVID-19: Borno Government Suspends Lockdown Indefinitely

Chairman of Borno State Response Committee on Prevention and Control of COVID-19, who is also the state’s deputy governor, Hon. Usman Umar Kadafur, has said that the state government decided to suspend the three-week old lockdown but with stringent measures to be adopted by both the government and people. He also commended the people of the state for their support and cooperation during the lockdown while appealing to the state association of Ulamas and CAN to ensure strict compliance with the face masks wearing and maintenance of social distancing in mosques and churches during worship. The deputy governor stated this in a statement on Wednesday night before the expiration of the lockdown by 10:30pm.  The statement further warned tricycle riders and other public transport operators to adhere strictly to the established rules and guidelines of wearing face masks and observing social distancing. Delta Discharges Three COVID-19 Patients, Records Five New Cases

Barely three hours after the Delta State Government discharged three COVID-19 patients from the state isolation centres, five new cases of the virus were recorded in the city. The new five cases brings to 22 the total number of confirmed infections in the state with three deaths.  Confirming the new cases on Wednesday, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, disclosed that they were recorded in Warri South and Oshimili North local government areas of the state with four in the Warri and one in the Asaba axis of the state. He said, “Five new positive cases of COVID-19 reported in Delta State. Four from Warri-South and one from Oshimili-North. Yobe Records 741 ‘Mysterious’ Deaths In A Month

People in Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru, three major towns in Yobe State, have continued to express concern over rising number of what is described as ‘mysterious’ deaths.  There are huge concerns among residents that such deaths may be connected to Coronavirus. At least 741 people were reported dead in one month, with more deaths recorded on daily basis.  A resident of Nguru told SaharaReporters that at least 12 people were buried daily in recent weeks. In Gashua, the graveyard had been witnessing massive expansion on daily basis as a result of sudden and frequent deaths. Lagos Discharges 26 COVID-19 Patients

Twenty-six more COVID-19 patients have been discharged in Lagos after recovering from Coronavirus. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos made this known on Wednesday evening. COVID-19: Ondo Police Commissioner Urges Officers To Stop Entry Of Persons Into State

Ondo Police Commissioner Adie Commissioner of Police in Ondo State has called on officers manning entry points to prevent anyone from sneaking into the state. Adie said he had been receiving reports that many of the vehicles and trucks used in transporting essential commodities were being used to smuggle passengers into the state. Niger Republic Military Kills 74 Boko Haram Terrorists Near Lake Chad

The military in Niger Republic has killed 74 Boko Haram Insurgents in an operation at Liwur, an area near Lake Chad. Boko Haram terrorists have killed at least 36,000 people including hundreds in the Diffa area, which led to the offensive. The Niger Defence Ministry in a statement on Wednesday said 25 terrorists were killed South of Diffa, the main city in South-East Niger, while about 50 were neutralised on the same day on Nigerian soil in the Lake Chad region in two operations, AFP reports.  On Monday, troops from Niger's contingent in the regional force carried out "aggressive reconnaissance" on the banks of the Komadougou River and clashed with Boko Haram fighters at a locality 74km (45 miles) South of Diffa, the defence ministry said.
