Traditional Ruler Escapes Attack In Taraba

Paramount ruler of Yandang chiefdom, Haniel Banti, has escaped an attack by armed men in Taraba State, according to a report by Channels Television. Banti said raised the alarm after he heard the gunmen having a conversation about the attack on his palace on Saturday in Jauro Santi under Lau Local Government Area of the state. Narrating how the incident happened, the traditional ruler said, “It was around 1:00am but I was awake; I heard strange voices around my house. “They (the gunmen) spoke in a language I can identify, saying that this is the house. I was alerted by that, I left what I was doing at that time and alerted my guards. “They surrounded the house and one of them climbed up the gate and was trying to come in; my security guards engaged him and they started shooting. The police in the Federal Capital Territory has said that it rescued one Abubakar Alkali, a lecturer at Baze University, who was kidnapped on September 8 in Abuja. This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, on Sunday in Abuja. Activists Call For Inquiry Into Death Of FUOYE Students

Human rights activists have called for a probe into the death of two students of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, allegedly caused by policemen on the entourage of wife of Ekiti State Governor, Bisi Fayemi. In a statement jointly issued by the Convener, Coalition in Defence of Democracy and Constitution, Dare Atoye, and Executive Director, Policy Advocacy and Integrity Network, Joe Mesele, in Abuja on Sunday, the group called on appropriate authorities to immediately set up an open and impartial judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the killings and ensure that the real culprits were brought to book. Again, Sowore Approaches Court, Seeks Bail On Self-recognition

Detained pro-democracy activist and Convener of #RevolutionNowmovement, Omoyele Sowore, has filed a motion before the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking bail on self-recognition. In a motion filed on Friday, Femi Falana (SAN), his lawyer, asked the court to grant Sowore bail on the ground of self-recognition or upon any condition the court may reasonably deem to impose in the circumstance of the case. Falana said that the applicant’s right to fair hearing, dignity of human person, liberty, health and freedom of movement are under threat and being violated. He stated that by Section 28 (4) of the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act 2013, a person detained pursuant to Section 27 (1) can be admitted to bail by the court. National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, has said that he prefers to keep silent for now on the second term ambition of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State. Tinubu expressed this at the weekend during the traditional wedding ceremony of Akeredolu's daughter in Owo, a sleepy town in the state. He said, "I won't say anything yet (if there will be vacancy or not) about that until the time is ripe for it." Officers from Thiruvananthapuram Cybercrime Police Station arrested Kingsley Udeh from Bengaluru. Udeh carried out the act through a job portal named 'Carreers', the New Indian Express reports. "The accused offered the job of a senior electrical engineer in the United States and sought money for arranging the appointment order, work permit and insurance cover.  "Udeh made fake papers to convince the retired engineer and fraudulently obtained Rs 6 lakh from him at different stages.   Nigerian musician, Johnson Oyindamola, aka Dammy Krane, risks three years in jail as the Zone 2 Police Command is set to arraign him on Monday, Punch reports.
