Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has called for the arrest and prosecution of drivers, who protested the killing of their colleague by a policeman over his refusal to pay bribe. The drivers protest had caused a total standstill on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway on Friday. Policemen on duty along the Abuja-Kaduna highway allegedly killed a commercial driver after he refused to give them N2,000 bribe. Reacting to the incident in a post on his official Twitter handle @elrufai, the governor said, "It is most unfortunate. “The drivers will all be arrested and prosecuted for this. There are lawful means of expressing grievances. This is unacceptable! "The State Commissioner of Police is investigating and reporting to our Attorney-General for immediate prosecution of the trigger-happy officer, but the tanker drivers have no right to do what they did, and must pay the price as well."   The Economic and Financial Crime Commission will arraign Abdullahi Babalele, son-in-law to a former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, on August 14. The anti-graft agency has filed a two-count charge against him at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos. According to the charge signed by Rotimi Oyedepo, EFCC's counsel,  Babalele committed an offence of money laundering in February 2019. The two charges against  Babalele reads, “That you, Abdullahi Babalele on or about the 20th day of February 2019 in Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this honourable court procured Bashir Mohammed to make cash payment of the sum of $140,000 without going through financial institution. “The sum exceeded the amount authorised by law and you thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 18(c) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act, 2011 as amended and punishable under Section 16(2)(b) of the same Act.   The Kaduna Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has said it would deploy 3,000 personnel during the Ed-El-Kabir celebrations to protect critical national assets across the state. Commandant of the agency in the state, Babangida Dutsinma, made the disclosure in a press statement issued in Kaduna through the Public Relations Officer, Orndiir Terzungwe, on Friday. Dustinma said they were determined to ensure a hitch-free celebrations.
