We Can Use Force On Protesters When Required – Defence Minister Reacts To Lekki Tollgate Protest

Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi The Minister of Defence, Bashir Magashi, has said that the security agencies can use force when required to deal with protesters. “We can use minimum force, commensurate with what is seen on the ground,” he said. Popular comedian and activist, Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni, and 39 other arrested #OccupyLekki protesters, have been granted bail, according to the Lagos State Police Command. The Police spokesman, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, made this known in a statement on Saturday evening. He said, “The command has arrested forty (40) suspects at Lekki Toll Gate plaza, Lagos State, on Saturday, February 13 2021, for conspiracy, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and violation of COVID-19 protocols. “The suspects had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate plaza creating tension and behaving in such a manner that could cause a breach of public peace without due regard for COVID-19 protocols major of which are the use of nose masks and social distancing. “The command has arraigned the suspects today to the mobile court at Panti, Yaba accordingly but were however granted bail by the court. #OccupyLekki: Mr Macaroni, Other Protesters Arraigned

A comedian,  Debo Adebayo, also known as Mr Macaroni, has been arraigned before a mobile court, The PUNCH has learnt. A spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this on Saturday evening. “He (Mr Macaroni) and others have been arraigned before a mobile court. I will release a statement on it shortly,” he said in a phone interview. On Saturday, Mr Macaroni was arrested for protesting at the Lekki toll gate where he demanded that justice be served to the victims of the October 20, 2020, #EndSARS protest at the toll plaza. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, on Saturday, called for the release of all protesters who were harassed and arrested by the police during the peaceful protest at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State.  SERAP added that it would pursue legal actions if the arrested protesters are not immediately and unconditionally released. Police officers from the Adeniji Adele division on the Lagos Island are presently torturing the #OccupyLekkiTollgate protesters who were harassed and arrested in the early hours of Saturday. BREAKING: Nigerians Defy Police Order, Resume Protest At Lekki Toll Gate

Some protesters on Saturday defied the presence of police officers at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos to pour out their grievances against bad governance in Nigeria. The protesters, who demanded justice for those killed by soldiers at the plaza on October 20, 2020, were later arrested by the police.  They express their dissatisfaction with the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry’s decision which allows the Lekki Concession Company to reopen the tollgate on Saturday. “What do we want? Herdsmen Have Killed 4,000 Farmers In South-West Since 2015, Farmers’ Association President Claims

The President-General of Agbekoya Farmers Association, Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola, has said that herdsmen have attacked and killed no fewer than 4000 farmers in various towns and communities of the South-West since 2015.
