An Open Letter To The Christian Association Of Nigeria: Will The Leadership Of Can Escape Judgment If Yahaya Aminu Sharif Is Executed? By Nnamdi Abana

Nnamdi Abana There is an ongoing controversial case of blasphemy in Kano, the Northern part of Nigeria, which is generating much controversy across the country and beyond but the most shocking shade of the case is the statement issued by the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria whose position should be based on the tenets of the Christian faith which they profess and represent. Unfortunately, it is becoming apparent that they are practising mere religion by failing to seize the moment to usher in the requisite comfort and salvation in this present time of need. Jesus operated with the wisdom of God in handling the scribes and the Pharisees who tempted, tried and questioned him on several controversial subjects but he outwitted them and superimposed divine wisdom over the wisdom of this world which is earthly, sensual and wicked. Mr Sharif-Aminu, a musician, who hails from Kano was been sentenced to death by hanging for blaspheming against the Prophet Muhammad. An

Nigeria on Wednesday asked a court in Milan, Italy, to order Eni and Royal Dutch Shell to pay $1.092bn as an immediate advance payment for damages in one of the oil industry’s biggest-ever corruption scandals. Reuters reported that at a hearing into alleged corruption around the 2011 acquisition by Eni and Shell of the OPL 245 offshore field, Lucio Lucia, lawyer for the Nigerian Government, called for the advance payment ahead of a broader damages package to be set by the court at a later date. SaharaReporters gathered that this was the first time a foreign government was asking for damages in an Italian court. The $1.092bn is said to be the equivalent of bribes alleged to have been paid. The Malabu scandal involves the transfer of about $1.1bn by oil multinationals, Shell and ENI, through the Nigerian Government to accounts controlled by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dan Etete. From accounts controlled by Etete, about half the money ($520m) went to the accounts

The Damage Of Insecurity On The Nation By Layi Ademokoya

Barrister Layi Ademokoya Nigerians sleep with their two eyes closed, that was in the Seventies nowadays reverse is the case because of the level of insecurity in the Nation which is perturbing; some people have pondered if there will be a panacea for this ravaging situation in the country that already cost the Nigerian people their hoard which could have been utilized in key sectors of the Economy such as building of schools, hospitals, good roads e.t.c but a pending evil of insecurity connected with high level Corruption in Government had put the nation in an impecunious state.  Security vote is allocated to every state of the federation to cushion the humongous effects of insecurity in the country but it is obvious that these monies are not getting to their expected end as no significant result had been shown for the security funding leaving less to expect from the Government. The military also had complained countless times that they lack funding from the Government and the s

The Assembly Of Fowls By Bayo Oluwasanmi

Bayo Oluwasanmi I borrowed the title of my article from the poem I read long ago. Assembly of Fowls was written by Geoffrey Chaucer in the 14th Century. The poem is about love. In the poem, birds gathered to choose their mates. The birds have a parliamentary debate while three male eagles try to seduce a female bird. The debate is full of speeches and insults. At the end, none of the three eagles wins the female eagle. The National Assembly can be likened to the Assembly of Fowls. They congregate to debate what matters to them and other irrelevant issues that are not the priorities of the people they supposedly represent. They fight over who gets the most juicy plums and how best to loot the treasury. They seduce Nigerian people by pretending they are fighting for their interests. Their debates are full of deceit and lies crafted in meaningless speeches and insults. More importantly, at the end no progress is achieved to improve the welfare and wellbeing of our people and make N
