#RevolutionNow: From DSS To Police, My Encounter With A Nigerian On The Verge Of A Revolution By Ayoola Babalola

Ayoola Babalola Today, I had the second DSS encounter as we gathered for the #RevolutionNow protests in Abeokuta, Kuto roundabout.  I was arrested at around 11:55 am and immediately whisked to the state Headquarters of the agency. Just like the government that gives it orders, the agency itself is clueless. We engaged in discussions for more than an hour. I was later transferred from the office of the Director to their investigation room and then to a special investigation officer. By the time we were done, there was no charge to lay against us but they cannot appear like fools, so they transferred us to the office of the commissioner of police in Ogun state.  Quite a nice, reasonable man. After my brief ‘speech’ the man was left with no option than to give us fatherly advice on how we should channel our energy as youths and how we must be careful about the conceptualization of good ideas. It was a nice moment in his office. He later granted us bail (at no cost), and we were as

Buhari’s Love For Terrorists Vs Hatred For Peaceful Protesters By Ajiboye Amos Olakunle

It is a great achievement as Nigerians are beginning to see the handwritings on the wall. Our leader has publicly displayed a lack of interest for peace. A nation that intentionally breeds terrorists for ‘personal’ use, where leaders breeds and keeps terrorists as though in a poultry/farm where they’re kept for growth. It is painful that the democracy we fought to achieve in 1960 has been murdered and shattered by callous and prodigal Nigerians, who’ve attained political posts. A democratic setting where the government frowns at the public’s opinion, a country where Nigerians are made to enjoy deprivation of rights without allowing any revolt or revolution. Ever wondered why education is one of the most dormant sector that seems forgotten or unimportant? A nation where it interests leaders to spend more on ammunitions than books because the armed forces is their tools to achieve their political nonsensical and mischievous agenda. The speed that the government uses to deplo

Al-Qaeda insurgent group is gaining sway in the restive North-Western part of Nigeria, the United States of America has warned. Dagvin Anderson, Commander of the US Special Operations Command, Africa, disclosed this during a briefing, saying the group was also expanding to other parts of West Africa. He said, “We have engaged with Nigeria and continue to engage with them in intel sharing and in understanding what these violent extremists are doing. And that has been absolutely critical to their engagements in Borno State and into an emerging area of North-West Nigeria that we’re seeing al-Qaida starting to make some inroads in.  “So, this intelligence sharing is absolutely vital and we stay fully engaged with the Government of Nigeria to provide them an understanding of what these terrorists are doing, what Boko Haram is doing, what ISIS West Africa is doing, and how ISIS and al-Qaida are looking to expand further south into the littoral areas. “I think there’s two factors i

We are worried that our rights as citizens of Nigeria to freely assemble and protest against maladministration, bad governance and insecurity in the country is no longer guaranteed. “At a time when democracy is being entrenched and strengthened all over the world, Nigeria is sliding back into the dark days of military regime where citizens are being hounded and afraid to ask salient questions as to how they should be governed. “Nigeria has become a nation where bandits who have killed thousands of
