BREAKING: Nigeria Records 245 New Coronavirus Cases, Six Deaths

COVID-19 Test Nigeria has recorded 245 new Coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 2802. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control disclosed this in a tweet on Monday. COVID-19 Test Google According to NCDC, the number of recovered patients increased from 400 to 417, while the number of fatalities increased from 87 to 93. It said, “245 new cases of ‪#COVID19‬; 76 in Lagos, 37 in Katsina, 32 in Jigawa, 23 in Kano, 19 in FCT, 18 in Borno, 10 in Edo, nine in Bauchi, six in Adamawa, five in Oyo, five in Ogun, one in Ekiti, one in Osun, one in Benue, one in Niger and one in Zamfara.  “2802 confirmed cases of ‪#COVID19‬ in Nigeria. COVID-19: Ondo Sex Workers Devise New Tactics To Keep ‘Business’ Alive

Despite ongoing efforts to combat the pandemic to a standstill, Coronavirus has continued to take a severe toll on Nigerians and the economy of the country. Like every category of workers and business owners in the country, the lull in commercial and economic activities has also gotten to commercial sex workers in a hard way. In Ondo State where government has since begun a crackdown on brothels and ‘joints’ housing commercial sex workers, SaharaReporters discovered that the ladies in this business have since devised new ways of servicing their clients and keep the cash rolling in no matter how little.  Last week, at least 18 commercial sex workers were arrested in Ondo by the state government as part of moves to enforce the stay-at-home and social distancing rule meant to help curtail the spread of the virus. BREAKING: Union Bank Staff Dies Of COVID-19 In Lagos

The management of Union Bank on Monday confirmed the death of one of its staff at a branch in Lagos. Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Emeka Emuwa, made this known in an internal memo seen by SaharaReporters.  He said, “Dear colleagues, notwithstanding the easing of the lockdown, the threat of COVID-19 remains high and real. “Today, we received a painful reminder of this threat. COVID-19: Task Force Team Arrests Over 40 Persons In Ondo For Flouting Social Distancing Guideline

At least 40 young persons have been arrested in Ondo State for allegedly flouting the social distancing order and disturbing public peace. The state’s Special Task Force on COVID-19 arrested the youth during a tour to monitor the compliance rate of residents within the state capital, Akure. The offenders, who were arrested in a hotel in the Isolo area of Akure South Local Council, were immediately handed over to the police for prosecution.  It was gathered that many of those arrested were allegedly having fun at the hotel while others were apprehended for smoking Indian hemp around the vicinity of the hotel. COVID-19: Ondo Government Collects 276 Blood Samples For Testing

A total of 276 blood samples have been collected in Ondo State so far for test as the state government intensifies efforts to stem the spread of Coronavirus. Commissioner for Health and Chairman of Inter-ministerial Committee in the state, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, made the disclosure in Akure, the capital, on Monday. Adegbenro said the state had only gotten the results of 244 of the blood samples taken outside Ondo for testing.  He noted that the state had also begun the contact tracing of 148 persons, who must have had contacts with those suspected to have the virus. He added that 13 positive cases have already been recorded in the state but three out of the patients have been discharged after making recoveries. Meanwhile, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has ordered the total closure of all markets in the state as part of measures to curb the spread of the virus. Chinese Doctors Have Started Working In Isolation Centres –Lai Mohammed

The Nigerian Government has said that the Chinese doctors, who came to Nigeria over a month ago, were already working at different isolation centres across the country. Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this at the daily press briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 on Monday.  Mohammed said the Chinese medical team was helping the country in capacity building.  He said, “The Chinese are doing well, they all tested negative for Coronavirus. As to what they are doing right now, they are busy working at our isolation centres, putting together and setting up their equipment they brought. “They are helping our doctors in capacity building in the centres. It’s Insulting For United States To Give Conditions On How Nigeria Should Spend Abacha Loot —Sagay

Itse Sagay Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof Itse Sagay (SAN), has reacted to the return of $300m looted by the late dictator, Sani Abacha. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, confirmed the return of the looted funds on Monday in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr Umar Gwandu. Dino Melaye Sues National Assembly Over Controversial Infectious Diseases Bill

Dino Melaye Dino Melaye, a former federal lawmaker from Kogi State, has filed a suit against the National Assembly for breaching his right to life. The controversial bill targeted at empowering the Nigeria Center For Disease Control and the Minster of Health in times of a global health crisis, was sponsored by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila. EFCC Arraigns Former Minister, Tanimu Turaki, Aide, For Alleged N714.6m Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, for alleged fraud. Turaki, who is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, is alleged to have diverted N714, 670, 014.87 (Seven hundred and fourteen million six hundred and seventy thousand and fourteen naira).  The EFCC on Monday said, "He was arraigned before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on a 16-count charge.  "Also arraigned with him were his special assistant, Sampson Okpetu, and two companies: Samtee Essentials Limited and Pasco Investment Limited. "Turaki, SAN, was the Minister for Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs from 2013 to 2015. He also served as the Minister of Labour from 2014 to 2015." Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Folorunso Olabode, who was abducted last week by some armed men, has regained his freedom. The state government confirmed this in a tweet on Monday.  The commissioner and two others were traveling in the same car along Isan Ekiti-Iludun Ekiti Road in the state when their abductors attacked.
