Blame Northern Governors For Almajiris’ Woes, SAN Reacts To Rising Interstate Deportation In Nigeria

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Niyi Akintola, has berated Northern governors for not addressing the plight of the almajiri children in their states and for the rising cases of interstate deportation of the children. Akintola spoke in an interview with SaharaReporters on Wednesday.  He was reacting to the legality of the deportation of almajiri children from one state to another in Nigeria which has been on the increase as state governors struggle to contain the spread of Coronavirus.  Almajiri is a system of Islamic education practised in Northern Nigeria and it is also the name for a young boy, who is taught within this system. Most of the almajiris grow up on the streets without the love, care and guidance of parents.  They are vulnerable to slavery, anti-social activities and crime. COVID-19 testing Nigeria has recorded 195 new Coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to 3145. COVID-19 Patients Protest, Threaten To Abscond Over Poor Treatment In Niger State

Suspected COVID-19 patients receiving treatment at a government facility in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday threatened to discharge themselves over poor treatment. Policemen To Undergo Coronavirus Test In Ondo

Policemen in Ondo State are to undergo Coronavirus test as part of measure to further curb the spread of the virus in the state and country. Those to undergo the test are personnel attached to the Yaba Police Division under Ondo West Local Government Area of the state. This follows reports that three policemen attached to the division tested positive for the deadly virus a few days ago.  The affected officers have already been taken to the Infectious Disease Hospital in Akure, the state capital, for treatment. They contracted the virus from a colleague said to have refused going for the test despite showing symptoms. Commissioner for Police in the state, Undie Adie, who made the disclosure in an interview, said the blood samples of the officers would be collected to check their status. Foul-smelling Toilets, Dusty, Disease-prone Offices Greet Civil Servants Returning To Work In Abuja After Weeks Of Lockdown

Civil Servants in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, have raised concerns over the terrible conditions of toilets and the general office environment with the Federal Secretariat Complex. The workers said the unhygienic state of the offices with the complex especially after officials failed to fumigate the place, has the potential of causing an outbreak of diseases, which could endanger the health of many of them.
