Kidnapper Pays N1.5m Ransom To Regain Freedom From Another Kidnap Gang

An alleged kidnapper known as Mohammed Amodu had to pay N1,555,000 as ransom after being abducted by a gang of kidnappers different from his, which was led by one Buba Babu, 35. Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, who paraded both kidnappers alongside other criminals in Abuja on Monday, said Babu was notorious for kidnapping citizens on highways around Abuja. Babu, he said, was a member of a kidnap syndicate headed by one Buji, who was killed by the police alongside the second in command. Mba said Babu took leadership of the gang and was notorious for always killing kidnap victims. Babu took Amodu captive and when the kidnapped victim, who was a kidnapper himself, hesitated to pay, he was shot in the arm. Mba said Amodu had boasted that he had charms and could not be shot but Babu shot him to show how serious he was. Three Suspected Thieves Burnt To Death In Calabar

Three suspected thieves have been burnt to death in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. It was gathered that the suspects were lynched with car tyres on Sunday night at different spots in the metropolis, despite the 10 pm to 6 am curfew. Investigation on Monday morning revealed that one of the suspects was burnt to death at Atu by Palm Street, the second one was lynched at Mayne Avenue by Inyang, while the third victim was burnt at EfioAnwan Street at Anantigha, in Calabar South. An eyewitness who described how the victim at Atu by Palm Street was killed to Punch, said, “He went to steal at a different location, so he was caught and brought to Atu by Palm Street where he lived and burnt to death. He uses a master key to break into people’s houses and shops to steal. Money Laundering: Ex-AGF Adoke’ Stranded’ In UAE After Contracting COVID-19, Lawyer Tells Court

A former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, is stranded in the United Arab Emirates where he tested positive for the COVID – 19, his lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), has claimed. Agabi, lead counsel to Adoke in the alleged money laundering charges filed against him and a businessman, Aliyu Abubakar, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, conveyed his client’s predicament to Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo of a Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday. Adoke was granted permission to travel abroad for a medical examination on December 11, 2020, following a plea to that effect. Justice Ekwo, who ordered the release of Adoke’s passport to him, said he should travel between December 15 and return on January 10, 2021, a day before the trial’s scheduled resumption. Igbo, Yoruba Stakeholders Plan Meeting To End Ethnic Rivalry

Stakeholders and professionals from the Igbo and Yoruba nationalities have scheduled to meet on January 15, to discuss the way forward regarding Nigeria’s myriad of socio-economic challenges. The meeting, which will be hosted by an organisation, Fatherland Group, is also aimed at addressing the “troubled relationship between Igbo and Yoruba nationalities, the two biggest ethnic groups in Southern Nigeria.” According to the convener, Dr Dele Ogun, the meeting will draw professionals from across Nigeria and the Diaspora. I Can’t Believe My Girlfriend Killed A Man With Machete In Akwa Ibom – Lover Of Accused Corps Member

The suspect Henry Obiakwa, a man who claims to be the boyfriend of Princess Odume, the corps member who allegedly killed a young man in Akwa Ibom on Sunday with a machete, has said she is not capable of committing such a crime. Odume was stripped naked and beaten after she was allegedly apprehended for killing the deceased. The police later arrived at the scene and took her to the station. Sowore while addressing journalists today The co-convener of #RevolutionNow and human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, and four others charged with criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and inciting public disturbance have met the bail conditions imposed on them. The Chief Magistrate, Mabel Segun-Bello, earlier admitted the activist to N20 million bail in like sum with two sureties, one of whom must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 12. Ebonyi Policemen Abandon Duty Post After Three Were Killed

Policemen have abandoned their duty posts and known checkpoints in Ebonyi State following recent attacks unleashed on them in various divisions in the state. Three policemen died while two sustained injuries after an attack on Onueke Police Division, when gunmen on motorcycles and tricycle on Friday night stormed the station and opened fire at policemen on duty. The hoodlums also burnt a section of the station and no fewer than four cars parked there. Suspects were allegedly freed and two AK-47 rifles were stolen by the rampaging hoodlums. According to Vanguard, the Kpirikpiri Police Station located within the metropolis has been closed and no policeman was seen on the premises during a recent visit. The Alliance for Surviving COVID-19 And Beyond (ASCAB) and other unions of health workers have said Nigeria is in a state of war with the COVID-19 pandemic. This comes amidst the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Nigeria with over 100, 000 confirmed cases. Alliance on Surviving COVID-19 And Beyond (ASCAB) is a coalition of over 80 civil society organisations (CSOs) and organised labour, led by human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN). In a statement signed by Falana on behalf of the groups, the health workers warned that the second wave of the pandemic may record higher casualty figures unless immediate and drastic efforts are taken. The groups condemned the Nigerian authorities for not including scientists in its various committees, stating that this would undermine efforts to develop indigenous vaccine as a long-term strategy of fighting the pandemic. They therefore called for inclusion of health workers, experts and scientists to take the lead in the fight against COVID-19

Adamu Garba II A former Nigerian Presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, who instituted a $1 billion lawsuit against Twitter and its founder, Jack Dorsey, at the Federal High Court Abuja, over his alleged role in the #EndSARS protests that led to violence across the country, has withdrawn the case.
