Opponents Of Hate Speech Bill Are Pretenders -Senator Abdullahi

  Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate and sponsor of the Hate Speech Bill, Aliyu Abdullahi, has said those, who oppose the bill, are merely pretending and ignoring the danger to come if the bill was not passed. On November 27, Nigerians staged peaceful protest nationwide against the bill, which they said violates their fundamental human rights to free speech. In a statement on Sunday, Abdullahi, who is the sponsor of the bill, said its opponents were only pretending to protect freedom of speech. He said, “Both Christians and Muslims have said that the media blatantly expresses bias against their religion and that journalists will deliberately not report their story or perspective. “Outside the immediate communities affected by a specific incident, the general public’s understanding of violent events is often incomplete. “In some cases, false news about attacks have incited the people to undertake revenge attacks in various parts of the country.” Free Speech Politics N

Buhari Complies With London Court Order Yet Disobeys Nigerian Courts -Falana

  Rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has accused President Muhammadu Buhari’s government of disobeying valid court orders in Nigeria but complying with orders from a United Kingdom court.  Nigeria, through the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), paid a $200m bond deposit following the approval by President Buhari.  The move follows a stay of execution for a $9.6bn judgment awarded against Nigeria in favour of Process & Industrial Development Limited. In a letter to Malami on Sunday, Falana said the Nigerian Government did not give any precondition before obeying the court of its “former colonial master” as it does at home. USS Chesapeake (1799) . Chesapeake was a 38-gun wooden-hulled, three-masted heavy frigate of the United States Navy. She was one of the original six frigates authorized by the Naval Act of 1794 and designed by Joshua Humphreys as the young navy's capital ships. Launched at the Gosport Navy Yard on 2 December 1799, Chesapeake began her career during the Quasi-War with France and saw service in the First Barbary War. On 22 June 1807 she was fired upon by HMS Leopard of the Royal Navy for refusing to allow a search for deserters. Chesapeake's commanding officer, James Barron, was court-martialed, and the United States instituted the Embargo Act of 1807 against Great Britain. The Chesapeake–Leopard affair and the Embargo Act were two of the precipitating factors that led to the War of 1812. Chesapeake captured five British merchant ships early in the war before being taken by HMS Shannon. Her timbers, sold in 1819, are now part of the Chesapeake Mill in Wickham, England.
