Insurgency: Coalition Of Northern Groups Raises Alarm On Interference With Investigation By Politicians, Others

Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG). The Coalition of Northern Groups has written to President Muhammadu Buhari on the interference with investigation and aiding of banditry and criminal activities by politicians and some individuals. The group in a statement jointly signed by CNG spokesperson, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman; and CNG Coordinator, Zamfara, Bilyaminu Aliyu; posited that the interference had led to more attacks on the lives and properties of people in the Northern part of the country. It also said that the situation in Zamfara was becoming worse by the day with disturbing reports of bandits and internal collaborators exploiting a huge vacuum in political will to undermine security efforts. Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello, Blames Buhari-led Government For Tanker Explosion That Killed 23 People In State

Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, has blamed Wednesday’s fatal tanker explosion at the Felele axis of Okene/Lokoja/Abuja Road on the deplorable condition of all federal roads across the state. Alleged N714.6m Fraud: Zenith Bank Staff Tells Court How Ex-minister’s Bank Account Was Used To Distribute Funds

A witness and compliance officer with Zenith Bank, Remigius Ugwu, has told a court how the bank account of former Minister of Special Duties and Inter-governmental Affairs, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), was used to distribute looted funds. Ugwu spoke before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, as the second prosecution witness in the trial of Turaki alongside his personal assistant, Sampson Okpetu, and two companies: Samtee Essentials Limited and Pasco Investment Limited on Wednesday. Led in evidence by prosecution counsel, Farouk Abdallah, the bank staff revealed how funds were moved from Turaki’s Zenith Bank account to different bank accounts from January 19, 2015. We Don’t Need Thugs, Guns To Win Ondo Election —APC

The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has said that it does not need thugs or guns to win elections in the state. Spokesperson for the party in the state, Mr Alex Kalejaye, in a statement on Wednesday said the party does not need violence to win the election. He said the APC was aware of an “uncoordinated blackmail” from the Peoples Democratic Party and Zenith Labour Party ahead of the governorship election in the state on October 10. Buhari Approves $1.9bn For Kano To Niger Republic Rail Line

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led government has approved the a contract for the development of the proposed Kano-Katsina-Jibia to Maradi rail line in Niger Republic and Dutse, capital of Jigawa, for a total cost of $1,959,744,723.71. The approval was given at the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, said. He said the proposed rail line from Kano in Nigeria to Maradi in Niger Republic was going to cover a track length of 248 kilometres and will pass through seven senatorial districts in the North. Amaechi said apart from that, the council also approved the award of a contract worth N3.049bn for the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of one railway crane for the purpose of clearing rail tracks in situations of accidents. Gunmen Kill Two Soldiers, Injure Others In Abia

Two soldiers have been killed by gunmen in Abia State. The soldiers attached to 144 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Asa, were on duty at Owaza when the gunmen attacked, killing two of them and injuring others. While their rifles were reportedly taken away by the gunmen, two of the attackers were also killed.  A source disclosed that the injured officers were currently receiving medical attention at an undisclosed medical facility. In a statement, Abia State Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi, said Governor Okezie Ikpeazu had directed security agencies in the state to ensure that perpetrators of the attacks were apprehended immediately and the stolen weapons recovered. Ondo Deputy Governor Raises The Alarm Over Attack On Campaign Secretariat, Supporters

Agboola Ajayi, deputy governor of Ondo State and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party in the October 10 governorship election, has raised the alarm over the continued destruction of his campaign billboards and attacks on his supporters by suspected political thugs. He spoke after his campaign office was attacked by armed thugs in Idanre Local Government Area of the state. It was gathered that the thugs numbering over five stormed the office on Tuesday night to unleash mayhem.  Gbenga Olayoriju, a security man stationed in the office, was allegedly threatened with death by the armed thugs without any challenge while the attack lasted. Ajayi’s complaint was contained in a statement by the Director-General of his Campaign Organisation, Kola Ademujimi, on Wednesday in Akure.
