Ten LGAs Ravaged By Flood In Yobe

Flood Flood File Photo The Yobe State Government on Tuesday said that at least 3,000 houses in 10 out of the 17 local government areas had been badly hit by flood. Executive Secretary, State Emergency Management Agency, Dr Mohammed Goje, made the disclosure in Kalalawa while distributing relief materials to victims of flooding. Goje said the rising water levels destroyed many houses and farmlands with most of the victims taking shelter in other communities. He said, “We have profiled the victims and provided them with relief materials in all the affected areas.” Speaking further, Goje urged the people to evacuate all blockages on waterways, stressing that it had become necessary to reduce the effects of flooding as more rains were expected before the end of the season. The secretary appealed to humanitarian partners to support government’s efforts by providing the victims with relief materials to lessen their pains. Obasanjo, Davido, Omisore, Others Top 19,000 Tax Defaulters In Nigeria

The Federal Inland Revenue Service has published names of 19,901 individuals and organisations, who default on tax payment in Nigeria. The list contains prominent individuals and organisations Obasanjo Farms Nig. Ltd (Feedmill); Iyiola Omisore & Par; Citiroof Aluminium Co. Ltd; Coldstone Creamery Limited (Yaba); Davido Music Worldwide Ltd; Grand Square Supermarket and Stores Ltd; Open Heavens Bliss Enterprises; and God is Good Motors. The agency said it had taken possession of the bank accounts of the tax defaulters, adding that the accounts would be under its possession until they regularise their tax status. It said, “This is to notify all companies, which had their bank accounts placed under lien by the Federal Inland Revenue Service pursuant to Section 31 of the FIRSE Act but are yet to regularise their tax status with the FIRS, that if they fail, refuse or neglect to pay the tax due within 30 days of this notice, the FIRS shall in accordance with Section 49 (2) (a-

Bad Loans, Biggest Threat To Microfinance In Nigeria –LAPO MD

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Lift Above Poverty Organisation (microfinance bank), Dr Godwin Ehigiamusoe, on Tuesday said that one of the biggest threats faced by the micro-credit sector was the issue of bad loans. According to him, many Nigerians liked to take loans from microfinance banks but unwilling to pay back when the time for them to do so comes. Ehigiamusoe, who said this had led to the collapse of many MFBs in the country, stated that the disturbing trend was affecting development and the growth of small scale businesses in Nigeria. How We Were Stopped From Searching Ambode’s House –EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has revealed how residents of Epe stopped its operatives from searching the house of former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday. Sahara Reportershad reported that residents of Epe barred EFCC personnel from gaining access to the apartment. The commission, however, claimed that hoodlums stopped its operatives and also attacked the convoy of its personnel, who went for the operation. Head of Media and Publicity of EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement, said though the commission obtained a legal and valid search warrant, it was unable to carry out the mission. NIMC To Conduct NIN Enrolment In Austria, Germany

The National Identity Management Commission has concluded plans to extend the National Identification Number enrolment to Nigerians in Austria and Germany. Director-General of the agency, Mr Aliyu Aziz, made the disclosure in a statement by the General Manager, Operations/Corporate Communications, Abdulhamid Umar, on Tuesday in Abuja. Aziz said that the exercise would involve the demographic and biometric data capture of Nigerians residing in Austria and Germany in collaboration with Biosec Solution Limited licensed by NIMC to carry out enrolment across the globe. He noted that the extension was to ensure that Nigerians in the Diaspora were captured in the process. He said that it was in line with NIMC’s mandate to populate the National Identity Database and issue the NIN to all Nigerians and legal residents. Investigate Killing of Nigerian, Embassy Urges Ukraine Government

The Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine has petitioned the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Police Department in Kharkiv, demanding full investigations into circumstances surrounding the alleged stabbing to death of a Nigerian, Gbolade Ejemai, on August 8. Ejemai, a medical doctor, was allegedly stabbed to death by one Victoria Popravko, with the connivance of her father in Ukraine. The Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who had been in touch with the family of the deceased and Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine, confirmed the petition in a statement on Tuesday. The statement was signed by NIDCOM’s Head of Media, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, in Abuja. Dabiri-Erewa said the petition was delivered to the Ukrainian authorities on behalf of the Nigerian Government. Kashifu Abdullahi has been appointed by the government as the new Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency. Head, Corporate Affairs and External Relations of NITDA, Mrs Hadiza Umar, confirmed the appointment in Abuja on Tuesday. Umar quoted a statement signed by Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, confirming the appointment. Abdullahi until his appointment was a principal officer at the Central Bank of Nigeria but was on secondment to NITDA as a Technical Assistant. Other appointments by the government according to Shehu, included Senator Basheer Mohammed who replaced Mrs Sadiya Farouk as Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons. Three Policemen Killed As Robbers Attack Nasarawa Deputy Governor’s Convoy

Three policemen and a civilian lost their lives on Tuesday when suspected armed robbers attacked the convoy of Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Emmanuel Akabe. Akabe was on his way to Abuja when the robbers struck few kilometres from Akwanga at about 6:00pm. Spokesperson for the police in the state, ASP Usman Samaila, confirmed the incident during a chat with journalists in Lafia, the capital. Meanwhile, one of those in the convoy, said the armed robbers opened fire on the convoy before fleeing. The bodies of the victims had been deposited at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia, it was revealed. Fourteen Months after the anti-establishment Five Star Movement and the League Party of anti-migrant politician, Mateo Salvini, formed a coalition to govern Italy, Giuseppe Conte, an independent chosen to serve as Prime Minister by the political partners, told the Italian Senate Tuesday that he will resign his office as head of government.  Conte said Salvini was irresponsible, the BBC reports.
