Ooni Forgives Igboho, Pledges Support

The Ooni of Ife, Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, said he has forgiven Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo (Igboho), over the Fulani slave comment Igboho made in a viral video. The media aide to Ooni, Moses Olafare, disclosed this on Thursday, stating that the monarch was behind Igboho. Olafare explained that Ogunwusi was silent on Igboho’s allegations because “it is not in the style of the Ooni to make an official response on any matter that threatens the unity and peace of the country, especially as it affects the descendants of Oduduwa worldwide”. On Wednesday morning at a virtual meeting, ‘Townhall With Yoruba In Diaspora’, Igboho said Ooni was not supportive. The activist accused the monarch of disappointing the Yoruba people during his visit to the President, Muhammadu Buhari, over the herdsmen crisis rocking the South-West region. Ogunwusi, after meeting the President commended Igboho for speaking for the downtrodden but asked him not to take the law into his own hands an

The soldiers also recovered 15 motorcycles which the bandits abandoned. File Photo SaharaReporters gathered that many of the bandits escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds. Over the months, suspected bandits have continually attacked Zamfara communities, killing scores of people and abducting people for ransoms despite a peace agreement with the state government. About 15 brand new Hilux vehicles and millions of naira were given to leaders of different repentant bandits by Governor Bello Matawalle as part of the agreement. A top military officer told SaharaReporters that the gunmen now carry out attacks with some of these vehicles given to them by Matawalle. Extension Of IGP, Adamu’s Tenure Is Illegal, Unconstitutional – Adegboruwa, Ozekhome, Nwanguma

IGP Mohammed Adamu Lawyers, including Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), have described President Muhammadu Buhari’s extension of the tenure of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, as both illegal and unconstitutional. The lawyers: Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN), Mike Ozekhome (SAN), and Okechukwu Nwanguma, who is the Executive Director of the Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre said Mohammed ceased to be a policeman from February 2, after attaining 35 years in service on February 1, 2021. For instance, Adegboruwa quoted Section 215 (1)(a) and Section 216(2) of the 1999 Constitution to state that Buhari lacks the power to extend the tenure of service of an IGP. In a statement made available to SaharaReporters, he said, “When the tenure of a serving IGP expires on the grounds of completing the mandatory 35 years of service, he cannot be asked to continue in office beyond his mandatory tenure. “An IGP who has served the mandatory years of service ceases to

Bakare Calls For An End To ‘Obsolete’ Open Grazing in Nigeria

Pastor Tunde Bakare Founder and General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has called for an end to open grazing and urged the Nigerian government to separate agricultural pastoralism from terrorist issues. Bakare who is an ally to Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday featured on an ARISE News programme, The Morning Show and said he would bring the issue of the “obsolete” practice of open grazing to the President when the opportunity avails itself. His comment comes amid calls for herders to leave certain regions of the country over concerns related to insecurity.  Bakare however called on citizens to be careful not to “tear the country apart”. Bakare said open grazing needs to end as nations of the earth have gone beyond the practice, adding that it will also solve the myriad of issues associated with open grazing. “Let’s be careful not to tear this county apart. There are four issues in this matter that I have considered an

Like Buhari, IGP Adamu Violates COVID-19 Law Prescribing 6-month Jail Term For Defaulters

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, on Thursday violated the coronavirus (COVID-19) Health Protection Regulations 2021 Act recently signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari. This is coming a few days after the President failed to adhere to the law. Buhari was spotted amidst scores of people while holding his facemask rather than have it on during the validation of his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at Sarkin Yara Ward in Daura, Katsina State. The President had last week signed the regulation in exercise of his powers under Section 4 of the Quarantine Act. Part of the document states that “a physical distance of at least two metres must be maintained at all times between persons” and nobody should be in a public premise except “he is wearing a face mask covering the nose and mouth”. Nigerians Made A Mistake Putting APC In Power – Wike

Nyesom Wike Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, says the inability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to tackle insurgency, banditry and corruption will compel Nigerians to vote out the party in 2023. Wike noted that with the current economic woes of the country and escalating banditry, it was obvious that Nigerians had realised they made a terrible mistake to have voted for the APC. Nyesom Wike The Rivers State governor stated this on Thursday shortly after inspecting the Greater Interchange and Underpass being constructed by Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, in Yola. Wike said he was impressed with the developmental stride of the Adamawa State governor. According to him, it was gladdening to note that similar feats were being replicated in the states governed by the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The governor said Nigerians were apparently unhappy with the way the APC-led government had mismanaged the affairs of the country. “Are Niger

In this case, Mr Adamu ceases to be a member of the NPF from February 2, 2021. “Under and by virtue of section 215(1)(a) of the Constitution and section 7(3) of the Police Act, 2020, only a serving member of the Nigeria

KWAM1’s Daughter Blasts Nigerians Donating To Igboho As Funds Reach N7.6million

Sunday Igboho Dami, one of the daughters of popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, has taken to her Snapchat account to lambast people donating money to Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho. On Wednesday, Igboho’s supporters set up a Gofundme page for the purpose of raising £100,000 (N51.8m) for him to buy buses to help in the movement of his men in a bid to rid the Yoruba land of killer herdsmen. The fundraiser, which was initiated by Maureen Badejo, a blogger and activist based in the United Kingdom, has so far garnered £14, 824 (7.6m) with over 446 donations made.  But the singer’s daughter who is a lawyer urged Nigerians to desist from raising money for Igboho.  According to her, Igboho was an active participant in the last Ife-Modakeke crisis, where lots of lives were lost. The lawyer wrote, “Anybody donating money from any part of the world in order to set Nigeria on fire will never know peace. It took us a lot to get here, ple

20-year-old Rivers Woman Jailed For Four Years For Trafficking Twin Babies

A Magistrates’ Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has sentenced 20-year-old Miss Joy Olaka Worgu to four years in prison for trafficking twin babies. Worgu was said to have stolen the babies from their parents and trafficked them in 2018. The convict was sentenced on Thursday after she was found guilty on three counts bordering on human trafficking, among others.  However, the sentence is to run concurrently as Worgu has been in prison custody since 2018. She initially pleaded not guilty but later changed her plea and admitted to committing the crime in connivance with a second defendant. The Chief Magistrate, Amaka Amaenze, noted that the sentence would deter her from committing such a crime in the future. The magistrate adjourned the matter to March 2,  2021 to hear the evidence of the second defendant who has denied buying the twins from Worgu. Meanwhile, counsel for Worgu, Paul Ephraim, accepted the court’s verdict but did not rule out that the defence would appeal

Eviction Orders Here And There Will Make Us Refugees In Our Own Country, By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo It takes just a moment of indignation to destroy; to cast down and cast out. It is easier to destroy than to build. And what is broken sometimes cannot be put together again. Why are we at daggers drawn with one another? Why are we at each other’s throat? Why the hate-slinging? In the south, the drumbeats of war are pounding, and in the north, the cavalrymen are assembling. But nobody wins in this family feud.  No doubt, Nigeria is tottering on the precipice. This is perhaps one of the most precarious times in our democratic evolution since 1999.  It is as if the emissaries of Hades are encamped in the country. Nobody wants to hear the other; everyone is yelling, seeking to drown out the obverse voice. But if we all at least take a pause and listen, we will see everyone is saying something that needs to be heard. No side – be it the north or the south – has made frail arguments on this freak of the time — eviction orders. Both sides have made well-founded points
