APC Begins Screening Of Ondo Governorship Candidates Ahead Of Primary Election

Ahead of its governorship primary election on July 20, the All Progressives Congress has begun the screening of aspirants jostling for the party's ticket.  Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State confirmed this on Wednesday on his Twitter page shortly after he was screened in Abuja.  He said, “I have just undergone screening by my party @OfficialAPCNg. Members of the committee were thorough, scrutinizing all documents amongst other questions. I believe the party made excellent choices for the committee members. Ivory Coast Prime Minister, Coulibaly, Is Dead

Amadou Gon Coulibaly, Ivory Coast’s Prime Minister and the ruling party’s candidate for October's presidential election, has died. Coulibaly died on Wednesday after taking part in a cabinet meeting, Patrick Achi, Secretary-General in the presidency, said in a statement on national television. Achi said the 61-year-old late Prime Minister, who had heart surgery in 2012, became unwell during the weekly meeting and was evacuated to a hospital where he passed away.  He had returned to Ivory Coast last Thursday after two months in France to undergo a heart exam and rest. “Fellow compatriots, Ivory Coast is mourning. It is with deep pain that I announce to you that Prime Minister, Amadou Gon Coulibaly, has left us,” the statement read. His death is likely to set off a scramble within the ruling RHDP party to replace him as its candidate in an election that is considered a key test of stability for the world’s top cocoa producer.   International News OBITUARY AddThis :

Police Arrest Nasarawa APC Chairman For Raping Two Girls

The police have arrested the All Progressive Congress ward chairman in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Christopher Ogah, for allegedly defiling two girls in his house in Obi town. Alhaji Mohammad Oyimoga Oyigye, Chairman of the Local Government Area, said he saved Ogah from being lynched by angry youth, who caught him and immediately handed him over to the police. A witness said the APC chairman lured the girls when they entered his house to fetch water, adding that it was not his first time of committing such crime.  He said the two girls were 12 and 13-respectively. Ondo State House of Assembly The leadership of the Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday said it suspended three lawmakers of the Assembly over indiscipline.  The suspension came amid the impeachment plot against the deputy governor of the state, Mr Agboola Ajayi, by 14 members of the Assembly.  SaharaReporters had reported that the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Iroju Ogundeji, representing Odigbo Constituency I; Mr Adewale Williams representing Ondo West Constituency II and Mrs Favour Semilore Tomomewo representing Ilaje I were suspended from Assembly. Group Asks National Assembly To Suspend Annual Recess Over Electoral Reform Bill

A non-governmental organisation, Center for Advancement of Civil Liberties and Development, has called on the Nigerian Senate to halt its plan to go on annual recess until the passage of the Electoral Reform Bill. The group said though the decision may not be convenient for the lawmakers but it would cast the name of the members of the Ninth Assembly in gold.   The group disclosed this in a statement jointly signed by Co-conveners, Ariyo-Dare Atoye and Adebayo Raphael on Wednesday in Abuja.  The group said, "We are, therefore, compelled by the reasons above to, in the best interest of Nigeria’s democracy and her overall well-being, earnestly entreat the Nigerian Senate to halt its plans to go on its annual recess this year until the Electoral Reform Bill is passed.  "We further acknowledge that this would likely cause inconveniences to distinguished lawmakers, but as has been evident in this trying time, the Nigerian people need the effervescent direction of its le
