The United Nations have been called to condemn the unlawful detention of Omoyele Sowore and other media practitioners in Nigeria. Ademola Bello, a Nigerian journalist and playwright, who studied at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, urged the UN to speak against the repression of media rights while also calling for the immediate release of Sowore and others in detention. Bello, in a post published on Council on Foreign Relations, wrote, “On September 24, President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria delivered a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
