Gombe Governor, Yahaya Has Refused To Give Newly Selected Ruler, Mai Tangale Letter As He’s A Christian —Source

There have been protests in Kaltungo, Shongom, and Billiri areas of Gombe State, after the newly selected ruler, Mai Tangale, Dr Musa Maiyamba, was not given his appointment letter and sworn in by the state government. SaharaReporters learnt that the state governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has been delaying issuing the chosen candidate’s letter because he is against his emergence, being a Christian while Yahaya is a Muslim. Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has said Nigerians don’t need the permission of any governor to reside anywhere in the country. According to Mohammed, citizens don’t need the permission of his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, to live in the forests in the state. Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Akeredolu had last month issued a seven-day quit notice to Fulani herdsmen operating illegally in the state’s forest reserves. Apart from ejecting the herdsmen, the governor also banned underage grazing, night grazing, and movement of cattle within the cities and on highways. The issue generated an uproar and after a meeting with different stakeholders, Akeredolu asked herdsmen to register with the government so that they can operate unhindered in the forest reserves. Federal Police Have Failed, Nigeria Can Amend Constitution To Have State Police In 10 Days — Ekweremadu

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Committee on Electoral Reforms and Constitutional Amendment, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, on Thursday, said the federal policing structure existing in the country cannot solve the current security challenges.   He said this in an address during the inauguration of the committee at the PDP National Headquarters, in Abuja.   Ekweremadu, the immediate past Deputy Senate President, also said that Nigeria can create state police within 10 days to address the disturbing insecurity in the nation. Islamic Cleric, Gumi, Niger SSG Meet Bandits In Forest, Appeal For Release Of Abductees

Prominent Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, on Thursday led the Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, and security operatives to a meeting with some suspected bandits in the state. SaharaReporters gathered that the delegation met with the armed men in Tegina forest, a border town between Niger and Kaduna states. The development comes two days after gunmen abducted 27 students and workers of Government Science College, Kagara, Niger State. The cleric, while suing for peace, reportedly preached to the gunmen and urged them to release all abductees. Gumi told the bandits that they had legitimate concerns and that the Nigerian government should look into ways of providing “reasonable” means of livelihood for them.
