The Olu of Ilaro and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, in Ogun State has warned the Nigerian and state governments against possible consequences of the killing of people in Yewaland by Fulani herdsmen. Some suspected herdsmen had, on Friday night, invaded Igbooro, Oja-Odan in the Yewa North Local Government Area of the state, leaving three dead and two villagers injured. The marauding herdsmen had reportedly invaded the village close to Eggua in Oja-Odan around 11pm, shooting sporadically and setting ablaze three houses and storehouses in the village. In the latest killing, a mother and her child were among the three persons hacked to death in their huts, while two persons were said to be in critical condition after they were shot by the herdsmen.   It was also learnt that many people, including children, sustained injuries. According to Daily Trust, Jonathan spoke in Yenegoa, the Bayelsa State capital, during the thanksgiving and anniversary service to mark Governor Douye Diri’s one year in office, while advising those in politics not to play it with bitterness. The Senate committees responsible for the oversight of the Nigerian military will start the screening of the newly-appointed service chiefs this week, behind closed doors. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Ali Ndume, who confirmed the development in a chat with Punch, on Thursday, however, said the service chiefs would be screened behind closed doors so as not to compromise national security. The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, had on Wednesday, referred the request of President Muhammadu Buhari for the confirmation of the new service chiefs to the joint committees on Army, Navy, and Air Force. Lawan gave the committees two weeks to carry out their assignment and report to the Senate in plenary. The appointees for confirmation are Maj. Gen. Lucky lrabor as Chief of Defence Staff; Maj. Gen. The Nigerian government using the instrumentality of the police force stopped her citizens in Lagos today from assembling for a peaceful protest following the ruling of the Lagos State Tribunal of inquiry for victims of SARS brutality to allow the Lekki Concession Company to repossess the Lekki Tollgate for business.  The government argued that the last protest was hijacked by hoodlums, leaving huge destruction of lives and properties worth millions of naira. With this mindset, the Lagos State government aligns with the federal government to hold forth this narrative tacitly against the protesters constitutional right to protest and express themselves within the bounds of law.  Let me state here that the event of the last protest at the Lekki tollgate in October 2020 was very peaceful until the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu invited the military to the protest arena from where the military introduced violence into the protest by shooting at armless protesters, injurin
