President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Innocent Ujah, has tackled co-founder of Microsoft Foundation, Bill Gates, over his recent comment on low rates of COVID-19 infections and deaths in Africa. Gates had claimed that Africa’s poor health system could be responsible for the low COVID-19 figures in the continent, noting that such might not properly represent the reality on the ground. But in an interview with SaharaReporters, Ujah called out Gates for making an assertion without providing relevant facts to back it up. He said, “What does he mean by gaps in health care? Scores of disengaged staff members of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board have protested the termination of their appointments by the state government. On Wednesday, the aggrieved teachers converged at the Kwara State Government House, Ilorin, agitating for their reinstatement. The Kwara State Government had earlier sacked over 2,000 teachers in the state over discrepancies that marred their employment process. But the spokesperson for the protesters, Esther Ateyobi, pleaded with the state government to reverse its decisions concerning their dismissal. She said, “We have been doing this job for the past two years. At first, we thought we were going to be disengaged but the governor promised us that he would not disengage us. “Most of us were single before but later got married after getting the appointment. Gardai, the local police, have shot dead a 27-year-old Nigerian, George Nkencho, in West Dublin.  The incident happened in the Manorfields Drive area, near the Dublin/Meath border. Gardaí had been called to the scene following reports of a man armed with a knife at a Eurospar shop in Hartstown, RTE reports. The man had allegedly threatened staff at the shop at around 12.15 pm. The Nigerian man, who was in his late 20s, then fled from the shop, threatening uniformed gardaí with a knife as he made his way home a short distance away at Manorfields Drive.  Mr Nkencho was involved in two separate incidents in the Hartstown Shopping Centre at around 12.15 pm. In both instances, he had allegedly threatened members of the public with a knife, local media claim.  In one incident, a staff member in the EuroSpar received facial injuries. The Acting Chairman of Rivers State African Action Congress (AAC), Nenye Kocha, on Thursday dismissed rumours making the rounds in some quarters that he had been suspended. Victor Akpati and Henry Amirize, two members of the Rivers State AAC, had said that Kocha was suspended over alleged misconduct. The allegation has since been generating controversy on social media, with many expressing mixed views on the matter. But in a statement on Thursday, Kocha dismissed his alleged suspension and trial, while calling on the public to disregard such claims. The state’s AAC acting chairman wondered how he would be suspended “without passing through the organs of the State Party Exco as explicitly provided for in the spirit and letters of the extant AAC constitution Chapter 10, 76(4) issued August 2018.” Kocha called on Amirize and Akpati to turn over a new leaf, adding that the state as well as “the National Working Committees of AAC can rest assured that there will be no reprisals

The Chairman, Oyo State Security Network Agency, General Kunle Togun (retd), has said that Amotekun operatives did not kill any innocent citizen in the state. He further stressed that Amotekun officials were attacked by armed robbers and that their response got one of the criminals killed in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
