Naira To Fall Further In January 2021, Says CBN Report

The Central Bank of Nigeria has stated that the naira is expected to depreciate further in January 2021. This was disclosed in a recent survey carried out by its Statistics Department titled ‘December 2020 Business Expectations Survey Report’. It, however, stated that there might be a steady rise in interest rate from December till the next six months. The apex bank also revealed that the respondent firms were made up of small, medium and large corporations, covering both

Why I Toppled Shagari Government – Buhari Says In New Year Letter To British PM

Muhammadu Buhari President Muhammadu Buhari, who was Nigeria’s military Head of State between December 1983 and August 1985, has given a number of reasons why he toppled the democratically elected government of the then President, the late Alhaji Shehu Shagari. Buhari, then as a Major-General who was the General Officer Commanding of the Third Armoured Division in Jos, Plateau State, said in a letter that he led a “revolution” in Nigeria because of the staggering corruption, insecurity and indiscipline in the government. Social Media Could End Marriage As We Know It, By Fredrick Nwabufo

Chioma is having troubles with her mother-in-law. I know because she made it headline news on her social media page. She does not share her concerns with the other party in the nuptial contract or with a trained counsellor, but with aliens on social media who are sweating on the treadmill of their own problems and who have no understanding of the situational context. Hear Chioma: ‘’It has been uncomfortable living with my mother-in-law. She insists I do my husband’s laundry which I never did even while we were dating and in our first few years of marriage. My husband’s laundry has always been done by dry-cleaners. Beyond this, I feel policed in my own house; like I am working on egg shells. I do not know how to talk to my husband about it. Please I will appreciate your advice on how to deal with this problem. I will be reading comments.’’ Social media could end marriage as we know it. It has become the stranger in the bed of matrimony. It is the third wheel on which some spouses

Muhammadu Buhari; ‘Hapless Dogs And Baboons Bathing In Blood’ By Dr Bolaji O. Akinyemi

The author, Dr Bolaji O. Akinyemi The climax of the Kankara melodrama was the reception organised for the return of the kidnapped Katsina schoolboys when the students were chosen to be spoken to in Hausa, by President Muhammadu Buhari.  One would have concluded on previous primary languages as being the expression of persons who suffer dementia. But Buhari’s antecedents will not excuse dementia as reason for his choice. Amazingly, a bemused nation and bemoaned world eagerly waiting to listen to the president’s words watched helplessly as he spoke in Hausa without an interpreter.  Buhari has maintained his political leadership of Northern Nigeria in a very strategic way, always choosing to speak to his people whenever the world needs words from him.  This however is a sign that shouldn’t be taken for granted but we should snitch till words are found for the world at large, particularly the United Nations. The International Court of Justice should by now be informed of the need

Nigerian Government Finally Releases Six Prisoners Abandoned In Jail After Transfer From Thailand

The Federal Government on Saturday released six prisoners repatriated from Thailand to complete their prison terms in Nigeria but held in Kirikiri Maximum Prison many years beyond their release dates. The released inmates are Azukaeme Henry Ejikeme, George Chibuike Onyeama, Kennedy Tanya, Yakubu Yahuza Mohammed, Mrs Gloria Ogbonna and Wasiu Amusan, alias John Smith. Documents seen by SaharaReporters showed that the six were imprisoned for drug-related offences but were granted royal pardon and their sentences commuted by the Thai monarch, Maha Vajiralongkorn, to one-sixth of their original sentences. Making a case for the released inmates, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, had in a letter in August 2020 to the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, alleged that the Nigerian government was wasting public funds maintaining them when they ought to have regained their freedom. “Our clients were convicted in Thailand for drug-related offences at various times between 1998 and 200
