South Africans Ask Foreign Truck Drivers To Leave Country

Foreign truck drivers have been given an ultimatum to vacate their jobs at the beginning of December or face mass disruptions, TheMercury reports. The All Truck Drivers Foundation issued this ultimatum (ATDF), a group of local truck drivers advocating for 100% employment of local truck drivers. More than 500 members of the ATDF yesterday joined forces with members of the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA), homeless people, hostel dwellers and unemployed graduates to march to the Durban Harbour to protest against the continued employment of foreigners in the freight industry. Nigerian, Two Others, Held For “Charity” Fraud In India

Two persons, including a 32-year-old Nigerian, were arrested for allegedly cheating a person in Hyderabad of over Rs 29.74 lakh by promising to send foreign funds for charity work, police said on Monday. The duo, along with the absconding prime accused, contacted the victim in October informing that a foreigner wished to donate US dollars amounting to Rs 4 crore for charity, Rachakonda Commissioner of Police Mahesh M Bhagwat said. Police said the accused discussed with the victim about spiritual matters during their conversation and gained the victim’s trust. Later, one of the accused, posing as an executive of a Foreign Remittance Department, called up the Hyderabad-based person, asking to pay money by citing various charges towards transferring the foreign funds. Accordingly, the victim deposited over Rs 29.74 lakh in various bank accounts provided by the accused during October 27-November 6, police said. Nigeria High Commission Seeks Release Of 12 Citizens From Indian Prisons

A Nigerian High Commission representative has met Meghalaya Prison Minister A.L Hek and sought his intervention for the release of 12 nationals arrested for illegally crossing into India from Bangladesh. The arrested Nigerians are languishing in prisons in Meghalaya even after completing their six-month jail terms, Bertrand Tochukwu Ikwuka, who was deputed by the country’s high commission-based in New Delhi, said on Wednesday. Six Nigerians each are lodged in Shillong and Jowai district prisons, he said. “Eight months have passed since March and our friends are still languishing in jails here. We are waiting for orders from the Meghalaya government or the Ministry of External Affairs,” he told PTI. Nigeria’s crude oil export may witness a shortfall following the stoppage of production at the Santa Barbara flow-station owned by Aiteo, a Nigerian energy conglomerate. Aggrieved locals, mainly chiefs, elders, women, youths of the oil-producing community, Opu Nembe Kingdom of Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, on Saturday protested against the oil major over what they described as “unfair treatment” of the community. They issued a notice to quit to the oil company with effect from November 14, 2020, to abandon the oil mining licence (OML 29). The head of chiefs in the area, Oriaingo Oruwari, said their actions were to register their frustration over economic sabotage, strangulation, ecological destruction, and contract racketeering by Aiteo.
