Goodbye, Mr. Trump… By Reuben Abati

Reuben Abati Reuben Abati The most exhilarating part of the US Presidential election 2020 is the fact that President Trump lost the election. It is what many observers thought would happen. They prayed for it. They wished it. In the end, that is what happened on Saturday, November 7, 2020. The major news networks called the election and announced Joe Biden as the President-elect of the United States. Whatever level of excitement that the election may have generated however, it was after all, an American election. It was one of the closest and most fiercely contested elections in American history. The turn out was very much about how this was an election like no other. It wa

There have been some changes: some of them transformational such as the increasing focus on global corporate social responsibility as corporations are held more accountable for their environmental stewardship or lack of it. Owens Wiwa In parts of Ogoni, some incremental changes have occurred: the resumption of traditional environmental protection practices lea

Solomon Arase A former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, says over 200,000 police officers are attached to political elites, a practice he termed “policing the elites against policing security spaces.” He spoke at the second edition of the national dialogue series of the Political Leadership and Training Institute (POLA) of former governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, held in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, Daily Trust reports. Solomon Arase “We have about 400,000 police personnel in Nigeria, and 200,000 of those officers are with the political elites. What we are doing in this country is that we are policing the elites, we are not policing security spaces, and this is an issue we have to look into,” Arase added. Arase attributed the challenges facing the police to lack of political will to implement reports of many reforms done in the past. He said since 1999, Nigeria has had at least four police reforms from committees set up by past leaders “but unfor
