Abdulrasheed Bawa, the chairman-designate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was arrested and detained by the anti-graft agency in 2019 for selling at least 244 trucks worth between N20-30 million each to his proxies at N100,000 per unit. President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday asked the Senate to confirm Bawa as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC. “President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa as substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “In a letter to President of the Senate, Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, the President said he was acting in accordance with Paragraph 2(3) of Part1, CAP E1 of EFCC Act 2004,” a statement by Femi Adesina, presidential spokesman, read. Lekki Tollgate Has Brought Hardship, Suffering To Us, Residents Seek Review

A call has been made to the Nigerian government to immediately release all those arrested and detained by the Nigeria Police for participating in the Lekki protest on Saturday. This was contained in a communique issued by the Lekki Estates Resident and Stakeholders Association (LERSA) on Sunday and made available to SaharaReporters. EXCLUSIVE: How Nigerian Soldiers Routinely Raped, Tortured Us In Abuja Barracks — Women Arrested In Obigbo, Rivers

Some soldiers of the Nigerian Army in Abuja have been accused of torturing and raping dozens of ladies arrested from Obigbo (Oyigbo) in Rivers State, between October and November 2020, during a raid in the area. SaharaReporters obtained the accounts of two of the girls, although the audio clip could not be shared because of the assurance of anonymity and confidentiality given to the victims. The girls confessed that two female victims were tortured to death while others were routinely raped during the weeks they spent at the detention facility in Mogadishu Barracks, Asokoro. The females were arrested from around a market in Obigbo on their way home from work between 7pm and 7.30pm on November 2020 and initially taken to the Nigerian Army base in Obinze Army Barracks, Owerri, Imo State. Nigerians React To APC’s Plan To Field Jonathan With El-Rufai In 2023, Advise Former President To Decline Offer

Nigerians have flooded the social media with their reactions to the plan by the All Progressives Congress to present former President Goodluck Jonathan, and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, for the presidency in 2023. Why I Left PDP For APC —Gbenga Daniel, Atiku’s Campaign Manager

A former Governor of Ogun State and Director of the Peoples Democratic Party presidential campaign of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has defected to the All Progressives Congress, saying he was finally “captured”. Daniel said in a statement on Tuesday that the visit of the National Chairman of the APC, some APC governors, and the Ogun State Governor to his house sealed his decision to join the ruling party. The former governor, who led a defeated PDP presidential campaign in 2019, is expected to pick up his membership card of the APC before the registration of new members closes today.
