Kidnapping: How Amotekun, Miyetti Allah Clashed Over Joint Patrol Plans In Oyo

Some Miyetti Allah officials in Oyo State have denied that they carried out a joint operation with Amotekun operatives and raided the settlements of Fulani herders suspected to be kidnappers in the state. The officials, who spoke in confidence, told Daily Trust yesterday that they were not part of the operation and wondered why a settlement that existed for over 45 years, with all the people living there known to relevant authorities, would be raided and some people killed. Three Fulani herders, including one Alhaji Usman Okebi and two of his sons, were reportedly killed by Amotekun operatives during a raid at Okebi in Ibarapa North Local Government Area of the state. COVID-19: ASUU Kicks Against Reopening Of Varsities

Branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities on Sunday assessed COVID-19 protocols in the universities and said the institutions were not ready for safe reopening. In separate interviews with The PUNCH, the chapters of the union commented on the directive of the National Universities Commission that universities could resume on January 18, but must adhere to COVID-19 protocols in hostels and lecture halls. ASUU said although its members were ready to start work, the government had not put measures in place for the safe reopening of the schools. ASUU’s concern came amid coronavirus cases and deaths, which rose to 99,063 and 1,350 respectively on Saturday. Gunmen Attack Ebonyi Police Station, Kill Three Officers, Cart Away Guns

Gunmen have attacked Onueke Police Station in Ezza South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, killing three police officers. Two others sustained bullet wounds in the attack. Daily Trust reports that the attackers, armed with AK 47 rifles, stormed the police station, set it ablaze and freed inmates in the cell. It was learnt that the gunmen also burned four vehicles parked at the station. The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident yesterday. Odah said the state police command had launched an investigation into the incident, to arrest and bring the perpetrators to book. “The command has launched an investigation to apprehend the actors of this unholy Friday night act against three of our officers. “Also, we are calling on the general public with vital information to provide such to the police to hunt down the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” Odah said. Gunmen Kill Three In Fresh Southern Kaduna Attack

Three persons have been reportedly killed in Kamaru village, Chawai Chiefdom in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. A community source said four attackers arrived at the victims’ house and an argument ensued. Shortly after, the assailants opened fire on the victims. A statement by Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said troops of Operation Safe Haven responded to a distress call from the village. Upon arrival, they found three persons – Sunday Joshua, Samson Andy and Mrs Tani Jacob – shot dead, and one other, John Joshua, injured. “Investigations indicate that the gunmen were criminals from a neighbouring state who crossed over into the village to carry out the heinous act,” the statement said. He said the remains of the victims had been handed over to the relevant authorities in Chawai chiefdom.
