A Customary Court sitting in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State was on Wednesday urged by a 39-year-old retired airman, Richard Imana, to dissolve his 10-year-old marriage over alleged abandonment and denial of access to his child by his wife. In his testimony before the court, Richard said that his wife, Nkem, left her matrimonial home and moved in with another man in the same barracks his family members were living in. According to Vanguard, Richard alleged that Nkem moved in with the man when he was serving in Borno. “My wife packed out of my apartment and moved in with another man while I was in Borno State. “She abandoned me for another man. As Nigerians approach the festive period, the Department of Petroleum Resources has warned against panic buying and hoarding of petroleum products.  DPR Operations Controller in the Warri Zonal Office, Mr Antai Asuquo, made this call on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.  He disclosed that petroleum products provided by the federal government were sufficient for the country during Yuletide season and beyond, and as such no reason to buy and keep because of anxiety.  “We should be cautious about how we handle petroleum products in the period of harmattan.  “The products are available, and the government has made sufficient provision to cover this festive period till 2021. “The prices will continue to fluctuate, today it may be high, and tomorrow it can come down.  “So panic buying and hoarding do not make sense. The Lagos State Government has prohibited the use of residential premises as morgues, embalmment centres and burial sites.  This, according to the government, is to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases in the state.  The Executive Secretary of Lagos State Law Reform Commission, Ade Adeyemo, on Wednesday, said that the prohibition had become necessary as part of measures to adjust to the 21st Century reality of preventing infectious diseases. She explained that the commission arrived at the adopted measures after careful consideration and review of laws that address the immediate and peculiar needs of Lagosians at every point in time. A report by the Nigerian Senate has queried the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and Culture, Nebolisa Anako, over the payment of N460 million to contractors without completing the projects. It was disclosed that payment of N460 million was made to contractors for the execution of projects in Ekiti and Ebonyi states, according to a 2015 report of the Auditor-General of the Federation. The report was, however, submitted to the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, which is probing the spendings of Federal Government’s agencies. The report listed the projects paid for but not completed to include: N51million for the construction of roads, parking lots, drainage at Ureje Dam in Ado Ekiti; N132 million for the construction of Ureje Dam waterfront; N138 million for the construction of event centre/restaurant at Ureje Dam; N122 million for construction of the fence, gatehouse at Ureje Dam waterfront; and N17 million for the construction of a fence at Exekuna cultural mus

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has denied that it reached an agreement with the federal government to suspend its ongoing strike on December 9, 2020.  The Union insisted that contrary to insinuation to that effect, there was never an understanding with the government that it would suspend the over nine months old strike on the said date.   President of ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in a statement made available to journalists Wednesday night, said ASUU representatives do not have the powers to suspend or call off industrial action but must follow due process which includes transmitting the outcome of negotiations to members and National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU for further deliberations and actions.   While noting that ASUU was willing to cooperate with concerned authorities to ensure suspension of the strike once the welfare and wellbeing of ASUU members and survival of public universities were sufficiently guaranteed, he said It was a needless crisis
