Family members of a man, who was abducted by the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad earlier in the year, have raised the alarm over N800,000 being demanded from them as mobilisation for police officers from the Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja to come down to Southern Nigeria to look into the matter. A family member, who chose to speak anonymously for fear of the case being scuttled, said they had been asked to pay for the flight and accommodation of the officers. Many young people had cast their ballots in what is expected to be the highest turnout of young voters in a presidential election since 2008. The International Criminal Court has disclosed that it was conducting a preliminary investigation into the recent #EndSARS protests in Nigeria. In a statement, the office of the ICC prosecutor had earlier said it had received information on alleged crimes. According to BBC, the examination will “assess whether the legal criteria for opening an investigation under the Rome Statute are met”. For weeks, crowds of peaceful protesters gathered in streets in major towns of Nigeria to demonstrate against police brutality, leading to a crackdown. Rights group, Amnesty International, said security forces opened fire on protesters, killing and injuring a number of people.  Both the police and army have rejected Amnesty’s allegation. Enugu State Map Leaders of Obede Isiugwu in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State have accused their traditional ruler, Fabian Eke, of subjecting their people to a reign of terror since he ascended the throne. They had in a petition to the Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, alleged that Eke was responsible for nine verifiable deaths in their community. Enugu State Map Five of the murders were allegedly linked to persons behind the move of the Obede people to form an autonomous community separate from the umbrella Ugwuoji precinct. The petitioners, who addressed themselves as members of the Obede General Assembly, said Eke had changed the security architecture of the community and installed Ikechukwu Omeje, a man of questionable character, to oversee the protection of life and property in the enclave. Governor Fayemi A screening committee set up by the Ekiti State Government has uncovered 362 ghost workers in the state’s workforce. Prof Adio Folayan, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development in the state, made this known when he presented the report of the verification committee to Governor Kayode Fayemi in Ado Ekiti, the capital. Governor Fayemi Folayan said further screening by the committee revealed that only 362 workers out of the figure were clarified to be on government’s payroll as of June this year. He disclosed that the state government was losing about 20m monthly to the ghost workers, who are mainly in the local government areas of the state.  He added that the state’s Accountant-General had been instructed to stop the salaries of the ghost workers.
