Nigerians Should Pray For Me, Powerful Political Forces Planning To Silence Me For Speaking Truth —Ex-CBN Deputy Governor, Mailafia

A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, has asked Nigerians to pray for him as his life was currently in danger. Mailafia in a statement on Friday claimed that some politicians want to silence him forever for speaking the truth. The former CBN official had been the guest of the Department of State Services following his claim in an interview that a state governor was a commander of terror group, Boko Haram. He made the claim while being interviewed on an Abuja-based radio station.  Mailafia said during the lockdown, the insurgents were moving and distributing arms and ammunition across the country. Ogoni Cleanup Is A Sham, Group Says

Over 5000 Card Readers Burnt In Ondo INEC Office, Says Electoral Official

The Independent National Electoral Commission has confirmed that over 5000 Smart Card Readers were on Thursday destroyed during a fire incident at the organisations’s office in Akure, Ondo State.  Mr Festus Okoye, INEC’s National Commissioner and Head of Information and Voter Education, disclosed this on Thursday. Okoye said the fire, which started around 8:00pm, gutted a container placed in a confined area at INEC containing Smart Card Readers.  He said, “We already have 4000 of the Smart Card Readers inside the container but additional 1000 was brought into the state for the purpose of the election. “So, we have close to 5100 cards that have been affected by the inferno.” He confirmed that there was no fatality but refused to disclosed the real cause of the fire.  Firefighters had a tough time putting out the inferno. Insurgency: WAEC Conducts Exams In Chibok Schools After Six Years

The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has successfully conducted the 2020 Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in senior secondary schools in Chibok in Borno, six years after closure due to insurgency. Brig.-Gen. Abdul-Khalifa Ibrahim, Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC), 7 Division, Nigerian Army, disclosed this while playing host to members of Education in Emergency Working Group Nigeria (EiEWGN), on Thursday in Maiduguri. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Chibok schools were closed after over 200 students were abducted by the Boko Haram terrorists from the Government Girls Secondary School in 2014. While the Federal Government has secured the release of some of the abducted girls, others are still in the terrorist captivity till date. Nigerians Groan As Food Prices Rise

Market Nigerians are complaining of the high cost of food commodities occasioned by poor purchasing power, Daily Trust reports. Many breadwinners interviewed on Thursday said they could no longer afford to feed their families three times a day as the prices of essential food items doubled in the past few months and their source of income dwindled. Market Google Some traders have attributed the high cost of food items to the inability of farmers to produce enough for domestic consumption while international borders remained closed. Others attributed the problem to the increase in the price of petrol and electricity tariff. The complaint came at the time President Muhammadu Buhari convened the meeting of the National Food Security Council (NFSC) where some of the stakeholders also raised the alarm of an impending food shortage in the country and the consequences.
