COVID-19: Jama'atu Nasril Islam Asks Muslims To Observe Eid-el-Fitr Prayers At Home

Muslims Jama’atu Nasril Islam has asked all Muslims in Nigeria to shun congregational worship by observeing Eid-el-Fitr prayers at home due to the Coronavirus pandemic. JNI in statement on Thursday by it's Secretary General, Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, said Muslim faithful in states where the ban on public worship had been lifted must take adequate precautions to avoid getting or spreading the virus. The statement reads, "Eid-el-Fitr congregation in the outskirts of towns and cities should be temporarily suspended. Muslims "That Eid-el-Fitr prayer be observed at home with family members or alone in case there isn’t anyone with him or her at home. "However, in states where governments have reached concrete decisions to observe the ‘Eid-el-Fitr prayer, based on their medical experts advice, strictest measures of distancing, face masks and sanitizers be taken to protect worshipers. In this case neighborhood mosques can be utilized if it becomes necessary."

Lagos Journalists Cry Out Over Police Harassment, Threaten Strike Action

The Lagos Journalists' League has bemoaned the harassment of journalists on Tuesday by men of the Nigeria Police Force while enforcing the lockdown order put in place to stop the spread of Coronavirus. Journalist belong to the essential services list and are exempted from all curfew/lockdown guidelines put in place by President Muhammadu Buhari. After an order by the Inspector-General of Police on Tuesday however, many journalists and doctors were arrested by officers in Lagos.  The order has now been rescinded and journalists permitted to carry on as usual. Woman Dies Of COVID-19 In Ekiti

A 75-year-old woman has died of Coronavirus-related complications in Ekiti State. This was disclosed by the state government in a tweet on Thursday. With the new fatality, the number of COVID-19 deaths has increased to two in the state.  “We can confirm that one of the samples sent to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control-accredited laboratory for testing returned positive of the #COVID-19 virus infection. “The new positive case, a 75-year-old female, has died from complications of the virus,” it tweeted. N4.3bn: Ondo Lawmakers Confirm Receipt Of Documents, Embark On Recess

Ondo State House of Assembly Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have confirmed receiving documents of transactions on the N4.3bn uncovered in a ‘secret’ account with Zenith Bank. Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Edamisan Ademola, acknowledged the receipt of the documents on Thursday during plenary. Recall that the Assembly summoned the Commissioner for Finance in the state, Wale Akinterinwa, and the Account-General, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, to furnish the lawmakers with the financial documents on transactions on the account.  Ondo State House of Assembly google Edamisan said the Assembly will not relent in its investigation and will make sure the documents were properly scrutinized. According to him, findings of the committee will be relayed to members of the parliament after proper investigation. Speaker of the Assembly, Mr Bamidele Oleyelogun, also confirmed receipt of the documents. The lawmakers after the plenary immediately went on a month recess.
