United States Partners Tony Elumelu Foundation On Entrepreneurship

  The United States Government has announced a partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation to promote entrepreneurship initiatives in Nigeria as a way to create job growth, economic prosperity and political stability in the country. Making the announcement in Lagos on Thursday, U.S Consul General, Claire Pierangelo, said that through a public diplomacy grant of $105, 000, the U.S. Consulate was supporting the training of a cohort of entrepreneurs from Southern Nigeria under the 2019 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Program. She said, “Under this partnership, we selected 20 U.S. Consulate/TEF Fellows to receive additional entrepreneurship training through a day-long program at the U.S. Consulate General that utilise some of the resources of the Young African Leaders Initiative including alumni of the Mandela Washington Fellowship. “The 20 Fellows were selected from the Consular District with a priority being placed on five key sectors: energy, technology, transportation, agric

Ease of Doing Business: Nigeria Improves On Six Reforms

  Details from the Ease of Doing Business report for 2020 has showed that Nigeria made improvement in six of the 10 areas measured by the bank. The country was however, used as a case study on poor procurement – a lapse that will count in the 2121 edition of the study. According to the study, Nigeria leaped from 145 to 131 but could suffer a setback when contracting with the government is added to the 10 topics currently measured by the World Bank commissioned research. According to the report, the Nigerian Government awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of a local road in 2007. The report said, “The works were slated to begin in 2009 but the project specifications had been designed six years before the contract was awarded. “By the time the contractor started the work, the condition of the road had deteriorated significantly.” The bank said the project was awarded at less than 60 per cent of the cost required to execute it. National Theatre Boss Urges Shift Away From Oil Economy

  The General Manager, National Theatre, Sunday Baba, has called on the Nigerian Government to take its focus away from oil and develop other critical sectors of the nation including culture and tourism. According to Baba, while oil is failing Nigeria as a country, culture and tourism development would take it to the next level of growth. The National Theatre boss, who spoke during the ongoing National Festival of Arts and Culture in Benin, Edo State, said, “Nigeria has a lot to offer the world. “Culture and tourism development can take us far as a country. “As far as I am concerned, oil has failed us but culture and tourism will take us places and I think the government begins to shift focus away from oil economy.” Speaking further, Baba commended the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, for selling Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage to the world.   Economy Oil Travel News AddThis :  Original Author :  SaharaReport
