Lagos state warns against fraudsters soliciting funds for rehabilitated mentally ill woman and twins

- A mentally challenged woman and her twin children were recently rescued and taken off the street by the Lagos state government

- Following this, there have been reports of fraudsters online using her photos to solicit for funds

- Reacting to this, the Lagos state government have put up a statement warning people about this fraudulent activities

A mentally challenged woman with six months old babies (twins) and three other children were on March 19, rescued by the Lagos state government and her children, tken into custody by a team of Child Protection Unit.

According to the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development in the state, Agboola Dabiri, the mother and children are presently in the custody of the State Government and are being given the deserved medical care and attention after their removal from the streets by the Unit.

Following this development, the Lagos state government has urged members of the public to disregard social media messages soliciting financial support for a mother and her twin children rescued by officials of the state government.

Speaking at a press conference, Dabiri described the people behind the solicitation, which had gone viral, as fraudsters whose aim is to scam kind-hearted Lagosians to enrich themselves.

According to the Commissioner, the mother and children are presently in the custody of the State Government and are being given the deserved medical care and attention after their removal from the streets by the Unit.

"We discovered that the mother of these children was mentally unstable while the children looked malnourished as at the time they were taken into custody. The State government is working hard to stabilize them and subsequently re-integrate them into the society".

While urging parents and guardians to be more careful and watchful of their children and wards, he had this to say: "As it is now, there seems to be no safe place to keep our children again, even religious leaders can't be trusted with our wards, let's us be more vigilant and report immediately to the Ministry of Youth and Social Development on 09077333425 or 08172457792 for any case of defilement or abuse around you."

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
