Liverpool return to top of Premier League table after beating Tottenham 2-1 at Anfield

- Liverpool vs Tottenham Premier League clash ended in favour of the home team

- Firmino got the opener for the hosts, but Lucas Moura's equaliser canceled the goal out

- Late own goal from Toby Alderweireld sealed the win for Jurgen Klopp's side who are back at the top of the table

Liverpool returned to the summit of the Premier League table following their 2-1 win over title contenders Tottenham Hotspur in one of Sunday's fixtures on Sunday

Roberto Firmino opened scoring for the Reds through a superb header in the 16th minute after connecting with Andy Robertson cross from the left flank.

The hosts maintained leadership all through the first half of the meeting but were unable to increase their tally.

Firmino's opener earlier in the game was his 12th EPL goal of the season after 31 matches, but also assisted five others in the process.

The hosts tried all they could to ensure they added to their tally in the first stanza, it was however impossible as the visitors defended themselves from the attacking trio of the home team.

On return for the second half of the meeting, Mauricio Pochettino's men showed they needed to get back into the game as they mounted pressure on their hosts.

And not too long, Lucas Moura restored parity for Spurs in the 70th minute after carefully putting Christian Eriksen's supply into the back of the net from close range.

And it looked like they were going to dent Liverpool's title contention with just moments to the end of the match when Toby Alderweireld scored in his side's net.

As the Reds enjoyed yet another narrow victory over one of the top four teams, and they will hope they can maintain their leadership status until the end of the season.

As it stands, Jurgen Klopp's men have played one more match than Manchester City, who are also in serious contention for the title they won last season.

Liverppool are now back at the top of the table with 79 points after 32 matches - just two matches over Man City who will play their 32nd match of the season against Cardiff City on Wednesday.
