The statement from Lai Mohammed read: “I think it’s part of the opposition’s strategies to throw everything at the administration and at the president. I think every day they are realising the hopelessness of their position.

“Everyday they are amazed by the support Mr. President is receiving from every part of the country and they have decided that they are going to spread falsehood, inflame passion and make this election a Muslim-Christian affair or North-South affair, but people are not listening to them.”

Leah Sharibu is the only Christian among the over 100 abducted students of Government Girls Secondary School, Dapchi, Yobe state. She is still the only one in captivity.

Recall that Legit.ng had reported that Leah Sharibu called on President Muhammadu Buhari to rescue her from Boko Haram captivity in an audio released by her captors in August 2018.

In the last quarter of 2018, Legit.ng also reported that factional members of the Boko Haram sect who kidnapped Leah Sharibu in Dapchi, Yobe state early in the year allegedly demanded N100bn ransom before the girl could be released.

A diplomatic source which claimed to be involved in the negotiation for the release of the schoolgirl said there were fears that if given the money, the terrorists could use the cash to acquire weapons with which they would unleash terror on innocent Nigerians in the future.

Buhari’s Legacy Of Recessions By Fredrick Nwabufo

Fredrick Nwabufo ‘Why always Buhari?’ As it was in 1984 under General Buhari, so it is in 2016 and 2020 under President Buhari? Is it by the unfortunate hands of kismet that recession hits Nigeria every time Buhari takes charge of the country’s affairs? If the recession of the 80s under Buhari was a conspiracy by economic and political factors, to what do we attribute that of his first coming as a civilian President — and now in his second coming? Why does pestilence scourge the land, hunger ravage the population and lives lost malevolently when Buhari presides over the country? Why always Buhari? Buhari’s undoing is his wonted predilection for hierarchising ethnicity, religion and loyalty above competence. Since 1999, no President has obtrusively shown a more nepotistic aspect than Buhari. It is unarguable that the President arrays the most competence-challenged cabinet ever in the chronicle of governance in Nigeria. Yes, a recession cabinet. Fredrick Nwabufo Here is a cabin...
