EFCC charges Okupe with 59 counts of money laundering, breach of trust

- The EFCC has released Doyin Okupe from its custody

- Okup said the EFCC gave him a charge sheet with 59 counts bordering on money laundering

- Okupe was arrested Sunday evening and spent 2 days in the EFCC custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released the senior special assistant on public affairs to former President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria, Doyin Okupe, from its custody after two days.

Okupe was released from the EFCC custody late Wednesday evening, December 12 after he was arrested Sunday evening.

Okupe, who spoke with Channels TV after his arrest claimed that the anti-graft agency gave him a charge sheet which had 59 counts, bordering on breach of trust and money laundering and other allegations relating to his activities when he was in government as a senior special assistant to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Okupe, who is one of the campaign spokesperson of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for 2019 elections, Atiku Abubakar, announced his release from the EFCC custody on his twitter page on Wednesday, December 12.

The PDP stalwart said that the anti-graft agency released him on bail within 48 hours as stipulated by law.

Okupe on his twitter page added that he was treated with utmost courtesy by the operatives of the EFCC.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year. This did not however, materialize. According to the release, the project will have a four to five-year execution time after the signing of the FID.
