DCLM Daily Manna – Putting Authority Into Action

DCLM Daily MannaTopic: Putting Authority Into Action [DCLM Daily Manna 2 November 2019 Daily Devotional by Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Luke 9:1-9 (KJV)

Key Verse: “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick” – (Luke 9:1,2).

MESSAGE:

Authority is displayed when a traffic officer raises the arm to stop a heavily loaded lorry. The power to halt the lorry is not dependant on the officer’s gender, size or tribe but on the authority he or she possesses.

Jesus Christ called together, His twelve disciples and gave them power (ability to act on His behalf) and authority (the lawful right to act on His behalf). Their mission was to give spiritual light to the people (preach the kingdom of God) and comfort (to heal the sick) thereby relieving those that were spiritually and physically disabled and tortured by the devil. Jesus gave them a complete instruction manual as regards their expected behaviour on the field. Power is recognised when it is put into use.

Herod saw the multiplication of the Kingdom work and was perplexed. He thought that the truth was banished and the power of God brought to an end by the beheading of John; but now the fire of the gospel was spreading to the cities and villages.

Every disciple today is called to be a witness of Jesus Christ and is sufficiently equipped to do so. The sphere of the work in reaching out to the lost is our neighbourhood and beyond. Bringing hope to the hopeless is a task we must perform promptly and with thoroughness. The world of the sin-sick, the oppressed and tormented awaits us. Let us go out with speed using the power and authority we have been given to set the world free. Power does not manifest in idleness; it must be put into use. When we go, signs and wonders will follow us.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Power does not manifest in idleness.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 33-35
