Panic as gunmen allegedly kill councillor, 5 others in Plateau state during brazen attack

- At least six people, including a councillor, were allegedly shot dead during an attack by unknown gunmen, on a community in Plaetau state

- The incident was reportedly confirmed by a resident of the community who disclosed that several others were also injured during the operation

- The brazen attack occurred hours after the state governor, Simon Lalong, promised to do everything possible to sustain peace in the state

A former council legislator identified as Sunday Bulle was among at least six people who were allegedly shot dead on Wednesday night, January 2, by gunmen who attacked Kwata community in Jos South local government area of Plateau state.

According to Punch, Sunday had only recently relocated to Kwata community to escape the series of attacks in his native Lobirin community of Barki Ladi council area, where he was a councillor.

Legit.ng gathers that the incident was reportedly confirmed by a resident of the community, Solomon Dalyop, who disclosed that several others were also injured during the operation which took place around 7pm.

He said: “On Wednesday, gunmen arrived Kwata community around 7pm. Before you know what was happening, they just opened fire on the people while shouting “Allahu Akbar” during the operation.

“When they finished and ran away, six people lay dead including a former councillor who relocated to the community from Barki Ladi local government area.

"What we are witnessing in various communities in Plateau state is a new form of unprovoked aggression against the people and the government and the security agents must rise in defence of the communities before the gunmen wreck more havoc on innocent civilians."

The incident occurred hours after the state governor, Simon Lalong, promised to do everything possible to sustain peace in the state.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Deji Akeredolu, a 37-year-old councillor representing Ado Ward 9 at the Ado local government council, was shot dead by unknown gunmen at the Onala area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.

The incident occurred as the deceased and his wife alighted from a motorbike at the junction to their house.

Akeredolu was a personal assistant to Deju Ogunsakin, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate in the July 21, 2018 governorship election in the state.
