African champions secure first win in 2019 after destroying Romania 4-1

- The Nigerian Women's national team defeated their Romanian counterpart 4-1 in China invitational tournament

- Falcons quartet of Chiwendu Ihezuo, Onome Ebi, Rita Chikwelu and Ini Umotong scored during the match

- The win over Romania saw Nigeria finish 3rd at the 4-nation invitational tournament

Nigeria’s Super Falcons defeated their Romania counterpart 4-1 to claim their first win of 2019 on Sunday, January 20, in the China invitational tournament.

The performance saw the Falcons to finish third after suffering a 3-0 bashing from hosts China in their opening game of the tourney.

Chiwendu Ihezuo opened scores for Nigeria in the 44th minute as the Romanians fought hard to protect their goal area.

The Falcon went into the break with a slim lead.

And 10 minutes after the resumption of the second stanza, the Romanians levelled scores, but were further pegged back in the 63rd minute when Falcons captain Onome Ebi netted Nigeria’s second of the day.

Five minute later, veteran midfielder Rita Chikwelu extended the Falcons advantage after netting the third goal for the African champions.

With seven minutes to the end of the match, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Ini Umotong netted Falcons fourth, to put the game beyond the East Europeans.

At the blast of the final whistle the score board read Nigeria 4-1 Romania.

The Thomas Dennerby-tutored Super Falcons side will also participate in another invitational tournament in Cyprus also ahead of the 2019 FIFA World Cup in France.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Super Falcons suffered their first defeat in the four-nation tournament hosted by China by 3-0.

The competition was organized as part of preparations for the FIFA Women's World Cup slated for France in the summer.

Zhang Rui opened the scoring in the tenth minute of the match while Li Ying netted a brace in the second stanza to seal the win.

NLNG Signs Letter Of Intent On Delayed Gas Expansion Project

The Nigerian Natural Liquefied Gas LTD has signed a letter of intent for the engineering, procurement and construction of its long held up Train Seven project. In a statement released by the company on Wednesday, it said that the $10bn project will be executed by a consortium of Italian firm Saipem, Japan’s Chiyoda and South Korea’s Daewoo. The statement reads, “The project will form part of the investment of over $10bn including the upstream scope of the LNG value chain, thereby boosting the much needed Foreign Direct Investment profile of Nigeria.” Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Atta, said in 2018 that the Final Investment Decision would be made in the fourth quarter of that year.
