Nigerian Government Extends NIN Registration To February 2021

The Federal Government has extended the deadline for the provision of National Identification Number by telecommunication service subscribers to February 9, 2021. This was revealed in a statement on Monday by the Federal Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy. The statement titled, “Extension of Registration Period and Cancellation of USSD and Verification Fees,” was jointly signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Umar Danbatta; and Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz. The statement noted that three weeks have been added for subscribers already with NIN while six weeks have been added for those without NIN. Ijaw Youths Block East-West Road Over Appointment Of Okon-Awka As NDDC Administrator

The Ijaw Youths Council has blocked the East-West along the Mbaima axis in protest against the appointment of Effiong Okon-Akwa, as the interim Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission.  Okon-Akwa, who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari, was the Acting Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the commission, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, and a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria. Nasarawa Passes Life Imprisonment Sentence For Rapists

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has passed a Bill for a Law to prohibit all forms of violence against persons and provide maximum protection and effective remedies for victims. The bill stipulates that the perpetrators of rape are to get life imprisonment to serve as a deterrent to others and for peace to reign in the state. The Speaker of the House, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, also the Sponsor of the bill, announced its passage during proceedings in Lafia on Monday.
