Some gunmen have killed a military officer along Enugu-Makurdi Highway. SaharaReporters gathered that the incident occurred at about 11:30pm on Friday.  The deceased officer whose name was given as Sergeant Bulama Aji, was serving at 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, Jos, Plateau State, when he was killed while travelling back to Jos. The gunmen were said to have opened fire on Aji, who was dressed in mufti, after he identified himself as a soldier when the bus was stopped by the hoodlums. He died on the spot. The Nigerian Copyright Commission is considering issuing a warrant for the arrest of managing directors of Macmillan and Melrose Publishers Limited over copyright infringement. The NCC had invited the duo following a petition against them by Elias Ozikpu, writer of ‘Heroes of the Night’. They, however, failed to honour the investigation, an act that has led the NCC to consider ordering the police to arrest them. Ozikpu’s lawyer, Mr Rockson Igelige, confirmed to SaharaReporters that the NCC had invited the duo twice but they have continued to ignore the invitation. “The Managing Directors of Melrose and Macmillan were billed to appear at the NCC headquarters on July 29, but refrained from doing so and only sent representatives. “The NCC rejected their representatives on the grounds that the directors could not make statements in a representative capacity,” Igelige added. Another Nigerian lady in Lebanon, Olabisi, has cried out for help following threats to her life. Olabisi, who has been in Lebanon since October 2019, lamented that she had been working as a caregiver but had not received any salary from her ‘masters’. She said both the agent in Lebanon and Nigeria have been receiving her funds. Speaking with SaharaReporters, she narrated the events that led to her receiving threats. Justice Rilwan Aikawa of the Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the remand of a businessman, Ibegbu Anayo, in police custody for producing, rebranding and distributing adulterated Total and Mobil automobile engine lubricants. He was charged to court by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria on a 12-count charge of producing substandard engine oil after rebranding them. SON said Anayo and others now at large, on July 15, 2020, at Mammy Market, Navy Town, Ojo, “Did indulge in the production of adulterated/substandard Total and Mobil engine oil lubricants for public consumption.” The products, SON said, did not comply with the mandatory industrial standards for lubricants, an offence punishable under Section 26(2) of the SON Act, 2015.
