No fewer than 10 armed bandits were said to have been neutralised by soldiers in Dogon Ruwa, Ungwar Bera and Zamfarawan villages under Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State on Thursday. The Nigerian Army disclosed this on its Twitter page on Friday. According to the tweet, the initial resistance by the bandits was effectively subdued by the superior tactics and dexterity of the troops, which resulted in heavy casualties on the bandits. Prominent international groups involved in anti-corruption efforts have said that the removal of Ibrahim Magu as Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission might erode the recent gains in the fight against corruption. The groups, Corner House and Global Witness, based in Italy and the United Kingdom, said this in a letter to Ayo Salami, Chairman, Presidential Panel of Inquiry handling the allegations against Magu. One of the protesters arrested in Abuja on Wednesday during the #RevolutionNow protest said the security operatives wanted them to make a false statement that they were paid for joining the protest. The female protester, who pleaded not to be mentioned, told SaharaReporters on Thursday that the officers who arrested her asked her to mention the name of their sponsors and how much they were paid. She said the officer brought out a recorder and asked her to speak up with a promise that she would regain her freedom.
