DCLM Daily Manna – God’s Universal Sovereignty

DCLM Daily MannaTopic: God’s Universal Sovereignty [DCLM Daily Manna 26 October 2019 Daily Devotional By Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi]

Text: Isaiah 20:1-6 (KJV)

Key Verse: “And the inhabitant of this isle shall say in that day, Behold, such is our expectation, whither we flee for help to be delivered from the king of Assyria: and how shall we escape?” (Isaiah – 20:6).

It is erroneous to hold the view that the Bible is only a record of God’s relationship with Israel of old. As the Judge of all the earth, He is interested in the activities of the works of His hands across the planet and even beyond. He may have, in His infallible Wisdom, used the Jews as His point of contact with the rest of the world. But now He is, dispensing His statutes, judgment and love to all, irrespective of race, gender or social status. On countless occasions, the Bible records the absolute Lord of the world as sending His prophets all the way from Israel to deliver His word to other nations.

One such demonstration of God’s intervention took place nearly 3000 years ago when the Creator issued a prophecy against Egypt and Ethiopia. At that time, the descendants of Jacob were planning to escape to Egypt to avoid captivity which had been prophesied against Judah because of her sin. The children of Israel were thinking of an alliance with Egypt and Ethiopia. So God sent His servant, the prophet Isaiah to warn that as Assyria had dealt with Ashdod, so would it subdue Egypt and Ethiopia. God dramatised the prophecy by asking Isaiah to go naked and walk barefoot. The Almighty said that was how He would expose Egypt and Ethiopia. There would then be no hiding place for Israel which was hoping for an alliance with the two.

Man cannot hide his thoughts, plans and ways from the all-knowing God. Neither can he seek to abort the fulfilment of prophecy that God has proclaimed against recalcitrant and unrepentant sinners. To escape His punishment, believers must ensure complete compliance with all His commandments while sinners must repent from their evil, rebellious and disobedient ways and turn to the Saviour in obedience.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: You can’t outsmart God with your myopic antics.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 13-14

Galadima, an ardent critic of President Muhammadu Buhari, claimed that he did not borrow money or have unpaid debt with Unity Bank, which lodged a complaint against him and occasioned AMCON’s move on Tuesday. The properties taken over include House No. 15, Addis Ababa Crescent, Wuse Zone 4, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and House No. 4, Bangui Street, Wuse 2, also in Abuja.  Reacting to the situation, Galadima said, “This is an attempt to disgrace and break me down.
